my coding just sucks.
i'm using flash like 8 hours a day but i feel the progression i made could be way more.
i'm lokking around in forums and just added myself to figgleafs mailing list, done a lot of tutes, read some about OOP but i feel somethings still lacking. :(
i've actually never bought a book on scripting before (and i dont script other languages like ASP, Java or PHP)
and i was wondering if that would help.
(i bought both Hillmans books but they're basically stories anyways :) )

how has buying (and reading) books been a part of your growth? is it a necessary part of the learning process?
which books are the absolute best?
i hear this new book by Samuel and Branden is really good.

any suggestions? :p

I think the best way to learn it to pick a project like a game or an application and just work on that using a reference book (like Actionscript:The Definate Guide).
Books like Friends of Ed : Flash 5 Studio will help you learn new techniques and will make you try things you otherwise wouldn't have.

Well, for me it works like that:
I read the source of people I know code very well. If I can give you a good piece of advice, Keith Peters from http://www.bit-101.com, sorry for the spamming I just can't help it, is pretty much the best I had the priviledge to see so far. At the other end, you have flas from Ultrashock, which are completely impossible to understand for me Books are really useful. I've just bought myself a book written by Jobe Makar about games, and he gives 1000 tricks I would never have though of. I tried to avoid them at first, but unfortunately I don't think it's really possiblepom
