motion tweening an ellipse

Does anybody out there know how to motion tween an ellipse from nothing until the whole ellipse is shown. Going out clockwise.

you will see that I have an ellipse encompassing a word.

I would like the ellipse to appear and around the word from the top

I have done it using cell animation (frame by frame) but i would like to know if there were any other way possible.

That's done using a mask I imagine. I don't know if it would be possible to make it dynamic (controlled by actionscript) if that's waht you're after...
