fade in and out effect

hi,

how do you create a a graphic that fades in when a user presses a button and fades out when another button is pressed (which in turn my fade in its own graphic)

i need this for a website, buttons are menu buttons and graphics is the contents of each "page" (which actually appears in the same setting)
