The look I am going for is a set of doors that will open to reveal the website, the animation part will give it the look like the doors are opening and then it will go to the site. So two questions.

1) What is the best way to give a realistic door opening effect?

2) How can I make it go to the website once the door opening effect is complete?

Thank you in advance.

The best thing i think is getting a video of doors opening edit it to your needs then if your website is made in flash use gotoAndStop(); or if its a url i dont know sorry.

I am not 100% sure yet, it is for a project I am working on, but I believe it will be going to a URL, and I think the doors will probably be animated and not an actual video but I'm not sure. I will check and let you know.

you could make the doors oppening in After FX, then export it to Flash as a .swf

Not realistic but efficient: The old Myst games faked door opens by wiping from the closed to open position.

If you don't want pre-generated video, you could model them in 3d and open them using Papervision. Still might not look realistic.

If I was in your position, I'd probably stick with a small handful of pre-generated frames, like just 4 or 5 frames of the doors opening.

If you know your way around in Illustrator you can create the first render of the door and the last render and Illustrator will create in inbetween frames for you,. You then import the AI file into Flash as single frames and bam!! Theres your animation. Works great for vectors but for bitmaps you could probably to something similar in photoshop.

Checkout the attached intro movie I made utilising this effect.
Nothing much too it really.
