Winchester, once the capital of England. You cannot get much more historic, most buildings are over 600 yeras old, and many more far older (bc) etc.
well black, whats your hometown? i've never heard of darkness... which country is it in?
my guess is either damascus or bagdad.

Does it have to go by the same name? For instance a city like Istanbul/Constantinople ?
I would think it's something in Eurasia. Possibly Northern Africa.
600 years? c'mon Snapple! Cripes, Alexandria is at least 2,400 years old. And Alexander conquered a load of cities that were ancient in his time that still stand today.
I'll say Damascus. Apparentlly it has history going back 8000 years.

Ah yes! I was born in @ the year 15 BMS.
And when I say 8000 I mean 8000 recorded years. Who knows how far back it goes before that.
You peeps need to read something besides the Flash Bible yo!
Well, Mdina, the old capital city of malta was built between the 9th and the 13th century but has been a settlement for the last 4000 years. Also some of the oldest temples known are found in Malta, but I suppose that doesnt count :)

yeah, or just learn how to use google ;)
At one time Jericho was claimed to be the oldest city in the world, going back 7,000 years
Syrian archaeologist Mouhammed Maktesh claims to have uncovered the real, world's oldest city at Hamoukar, some 300 miles north-east of Damascus. According to conventional chronology, the city flourished between 6000 and 4000 BC, extending over an area of 750 acres and housing a population estimated at around 25,000 - which was large even by Roman standards! Finds include stone statues that may represent gods or rulers, and a large number of pottery figurines of animals such as lions, bears and horses. Over 7,000 beads have been recovered, indicating a high standard of personal adornment.

I did find that Xian in China has @ 6000 years of recorded history.
I wonder just what exactly defines a city though?

1 a : an inhabited place of greater size, population, or importance than a town or village
Well, thanks a lot Merriam-Webster online dictionary!
...and when I check 'village' I got this:
1 a : a settlement usually larger than a hamlet and smaller than a town ha ha!

heh...
in 82 i was living in a tiny town in germany... about 2000 ppl. that summer they celebrated their 650 aniversary of getting their city charter... actually becoming a city.
of course they had been around for about 300-400 years before that waiting for that charter to finally get issued by the local duke/prince/count/whathaveyou.

I saw a show on the eediot box the other night about a place in Central (or was it South) America called "Corral" or something similar - they were calling it the first human city and it was waaaay old. Even older than the cup of coffee sitting next to me as I type this.

The first HUMAN city...but do they mention UKLOK-7? The city that the folks from the AlphaCentauri founded while they were seeding this planet with the human scourge? They're coming back to collect y'know!

heheheheeeeeeeeeeee
hey guys, don't get me wrong, but as I went through most of this thread here I did laugh for OUR lag in history of OUR land.
I say - as also the world and the remaining monuments - that the old EGYPT (the land of Pharoahs) is the oldest among all the others, they say something about 8000 yrs BC (means 10,000 by now).
But when reading the Bible, the old testment (Genesis) I find another thing which means that our calculas are all wrong. If you go through it you will figure out that the world befors Christ only around 4000-6000 yrs, I donno, but what I'm sure about that the land was created by God not by those explosions in the outter space.
anyway I do believe that the area of Damascus/Bagdad/Syria/ and what's around are the oldest place on earth even more that Egypt.
So you are saying that the worlds started 6000 - 8000 years ago? As far as I know even the church stopped believing that. How can you explain 240 million year old dinosaur fossils plust all the years it took for them to develop from small reptiles and way before that again?

hey SFA
u should take in your consideration that the clculation mathods were made by human, so this might be wrong.
I also said Go through the bible and read, and do that over and over again (I'm Orthodox by the way/Coptic Orthodox).
I just can't imagine a million year so how can I believe 240 m.
I don't know but it's my openion, and as I do respect the Churches openions but It's not the Churches subject to say an openion in it.
I personally trust the dating methods more but I would rather not get into all that.
So Fara, what about the idea that Egypt was built by an alien civilisation, is that true? :D
