I'm new to flex but not flash and I have noticed that positioning objects on the stage can be a little hokey sometimes and doesn't always position as easy or reliable as it should be. For instance, I had to make my own custom tooltips for a chart that would show up next to certain data points. I am doing this using dataToLocal to get the x,y coords of the data point and then it should be simple math to subtract the (tooltip width + half the column width) from the data point x but I have had to add special bumps here and there depending on how many columns are visible and all kinds of other nasty positioning hacks for things that should be the same across the board for all columns. It almost seems as though I am running into float precision or rounding errors even though I am using built in functions to get these coordinates.
Am I missing something here? Is there some sort of better way to do positioning that is more reliable?
