Just a quick suggestion: Why not use the OpenID plugin for the forums?

why do you care? this is your first post anyways. maybe AS.org doesnt use the openId because the founders feel that they wouldnt want to be tracked anymore than they are right now, why would they want to do that to their users? if we wanted to let others see who we are in other forums then we should have the responsibility to choose a similar name on that site and/or put a little badge in our signature showing who we are on other sites.
