Hi - would love to get some feedback, though this is technically more of a "tech check" rather than a site check. Certainly not looking for critiques of our Web site (though if you must...)

Harder to explain what we do than it is to show:

www.zoomify.com/flash/ (http://www.zoomify.com/flash/)

Just click on a sample image at the top - you'll see it's entirely within Flash Player 6 (unfortunately 5 doesn't have all the functionality we need).

Also, totally extensible. You can import the Zoomify component into your own Flash MX FLAs. Check out what we've created for UC Davis - it's a full-fledged XML-based Flash 6 annotation system:

www.zoomify.com/enterprise/zas/ (http://www.zoomify.com/enterprise/zas/)

Also, here's a SWF with Area 51 (http://www.zoomify.com/downloads/area51.swf) . It's about 10k, so it's portable - just requires an internet connection.

Anyways, comments, suggestions, etc., welcome!

Thanks,

Alex

very nifty -- worked perfectly for me. I'm on a cable modem, and it was all very smooth and fast.

I noticed the resolution redraw as I was zooming, are these new images being loaded as I'm zooming? Great concept. Well done. :)

Thanks LuxFX! Yep - as you zoom in we calculate where you are in the main image (the image file sitting on the Web server) and we send down the appropriate pieces of it as you zoom and pan around.

BTW we're releasing version 1.75 (which we used to build the demos) in the next several weeks. A version 1.0 trial is currently available (slower, less optimized, but same basic concepts). Anyone who owns version 1.0 gets 1.75 as a free upgrade.

You can download a trial of Zoomifyer for Flash - we include the ActionScript source for the basic viewer so you can see how we did it. It's basically under a "don't rip us off" license - you can use it, modify it, build upon it, etc., as long as you give us credit for our part of the code. :D

Download Zoomifyer for Flash trial 1.0 here (http://www.zoomify.com/downloads/)

For all you hardcore actionscript junkies, love to hear your feedback on the code itself - our team is used to coding in C++ / Java so it'd be good to get feedback from people who are more used to the Flash world.

Really good work, I think it's a neat idea, and the program works very smoothly.

Congratulations! :D
