I have been working on masking. I am a beginner so I am trying to follow many tutorials. I found a few that were quite interesting.
below is one:
http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/Text_Effects/Strobe_W-Kevin_Fo-530/index.php

I follow each instruction very closely. When ever I play back the mc by pressing enter once the layers are locked everything seems to work out perfectly. the problem is when I go to test movie the text does not appear but the images do. When I publish (file publish) and open the .swf file I get the same thing images playing through their sequence but no text (mask). This has happened each and every turtorial I have gone through that teaches masking. Why is this happening?. I indeed follow each and every instruction.

you can't mask device fonts (generally associated with dynamic text) - is that what you're doing?

if not, upload the fla

Just followed the directions in the tutorial above. everything he/she used/did is what I did. Let me double check and see whats going on. If need be I will upload it.

I have the same trouble with this tutorial as well.
http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/Special_Effects/Create_C-Mimi_Wid-856/more3.php

Mask wont work. Eventually what I want to do once I have got it to work is make the mask a sniper scope with hair lines that displays the text once it move over it.

Is there a way to have the end user to be able to control the scope with their mouse and where ever they move it the text/image then displays.

any help at all would be great. Thanks

Thanks that helpd big time. Nice pic BTW lol

here is my next task. I am trying to make it so the text appears very small on the mc but when you roll the scope over it the text magnify's...any idea how that would work?

just make a copy of the bg mc, put it behind the bg mc and scale it down a bit

make sure you change its instance name
