hi.
i'm working on a video project that needs lots of invisible hotspots and rollover effects. so i'm planning to embed the video in the timeline to make that possible. the problem is that all videos are encoded as .mp4 and when i embed them i hear the audio but i'm not seeing the video.
how come i'm not seeing the video? i thought .mp4 is understood by flash.
any tips are appreciated.
thanks!

Hello.
Would probably be best to convert them to .mov. Don't know what the capabilities of Flash is in terms of MP4.

Are you targeting the right player version?
Flash Player 9,0,115 supports direct H.264 MPEG4 files.

What version of Flash are you using? If you cant target Flash Player 9,0,115 or higher then as Morg said you may need to convert your videos to another format?

hey, thanks for your response.
i'm using flash cs3 version 9.0 and i'm publishing to flash player 9. i've tested that my current version of the flash player is 9.0.115 -- debugger version.
i'm also not seeing the video in the flash IDE. shouldn't i be seeing the video (not audio) in the timeline?
thanks for your help.

The flash player itself supports playback of H.264 (via streaming / and possibly embed)... but this is not dealing with the player, this I would think would be a matter of finding out if the Flash Application itself can import the video correctly .. I could easily see it not being supported if i had a guess..

i agree. everything i read online regarding .mp4 content involves the flvplayback component referencing an external file. i haven't read anything that talks about actually embedding the .mp4 on the timeline. however, common sense tells me that if you can do one then you can probably do the other.
i know that embedding the video on the timeline is a big no-no but i need to add a bunch of hot spots and rollover effects to the video and that is the only way i can think of doing it. plus, it'll be playing off a CD so i'm hoping that will make playback a little smoother.
the only other thing i can think of is trying to re-export the video and try again. maybe there was an error the first time.

well them adding support to the flash player is something totally different then adding extra support to the flash application itself.. I would have to guess that they probably didnt come out with a patch for the application cause they figured they will just have full import support with cs4.. if your hotspots are only on parts of the video where it might be paused.. you could try using cuepoints in the video .. but your right to get the video to import correctly you will need to convert the mp4 to a supported format .. (non-H.264)... or if your converter program supports exporting the video as sequential images that might help keep the quality of the images up.. but not sure how much that will effect the sync of the video and audio.
