View Full Version : Brief flash of black in Firefox on refresh

Hi, I have an HTML page with Flash elements, arranged with div tags. In Firefox 3, refreshing the page causes a split-second of jarring, blocky blackness in the browser.
Refreshing in IE doesn't do this; it just gives a smooth transition.
How can I fix this FF issue?

If anybody has any idea why it is doing this please can you let me know
Thanks

Yes, I would also still appreciate a fix for this. :)

i suppose you couldn't link to the page in question (I'm assuming corporate confidentiality rules). Maybe you can duplicate the behavior in another file but with changed names to protect the innocent?

I don't think corporate confidentiality rules apply here. :D

Anyone figure out why this happens? Why is FireFox so bad with Flash stuff?

I'd recommend trying two things to fix this issue:
1) Try using SWFObject (http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/) to embed your Flash rather than the old-fashioned method (Flash's generated JS + <embed>/<object> markup).
2) Try setting wmode to "transparent" instead of "window".

I'm not getting any black jarrieness. (FF 3.0.5)
Are the background colors for your two divs white?
Where would black be coming from?

I see it in FF 3.0.11. Looked through his markup and CSS in FireBug and don't see anything that's styled with a background color of "black" or #000000. He does have 2 flash movies embedded, though. I'm almost thinking it's a wmode issue...
