Creating new symbols

When I try to create a new symbol from the "Insert" menu, and create a movieclip, I get the message :

"Current object cannot have actons applied to it."

Problem is I want to add some scripting to all symbols of this new type. How do I get around this?

u are not selecting the movie-clip. it only says so if what is selected cannot have actions...e.g just plain text which is not converted to a symbol.

You may also have the graphic option selected when you create or symbol, or inadvertantly have the movie clip instance as a graphic. Check the properties to make sure it is an MC.
