View Full Version : Checkout my site.. It's still in construction
Hello.
Can you check out my site, especially the Gallery. I have some Javascript code that open a window. I want to check it works for everyone.
I know that the images aren't centered, but thats because Angelfire sticks adverts in every page. Damn them...
Once I get the site more complete I will transfer it to a paid site.
I also need to stick a loader at the beginning, and fix the main window size.
Anyway, have a look and see what you think.

those animated heading are burning my eyes...
stage size seems way too big too me - I'm on a 21 inch monitor and can't see the whole thing
need another colour - maybe 990000
the popups were not centered on my screen and were and resizable and scrollable - is that what you wanted?
some weird stuff going on with the thickness of the font - see attached
hope that helps

I agree with Billy T. The page came up very big and I had to resize. I also saw the weird effect with your fonts, as if only ever other line was anti-aliased. I would pop your windows without any location or tool bar, make them the size of your graphic. Unfortunate about all the advertising that pops up with your stuff — especially all those extra windows.
Cheers for the advice.
The stage is 1024x768.
I made it that size coz the text seemed too small otherwise.
Maybe it would be better if it was 800x600.??
I'm not sure whats going on with the text.. Maybe something to do with outputting it as HTML formatted text. I don't really know how to fix that.
The style is supposed to be of the really old silent films, so i'm going to keep the colours.
No, the popups are not supposed to be scrollable or resizeable. They work on my PC.
The popups are just bigger than the graphic, because no matter how much i try I cannot align them exactly on the left, there is always about a 10 pixel gap.
I can replace the animated headings later. :) I was just mucking about with that.
Anyway, thanks for the comments I shall try and sort it out. :)
P.S. the text appears fine on my PC. *confused*

make the movie automatically resize to the browser size...that way it can be as big as you want it but nothing gets cut off.
its not my style...but the colors def. need attention

It sounds like you haven't set the margins in your html page if you are seeing that 10 pixel band. Do you have something in your <body> tag like:
<body topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0"> That will allow you to make the popups exactly the same size as your graphic and prevent the need for scrolling.
BTW I think your colors are appropriate for the effect you are trying to achieve. You've obviously put a lot of work into creatng the art nouveau look.
Thanks for all the crits people.
Crabcake, cheers for the pixel band help. I have stuck it in and it seems to work. If there wasn't all the adverts at the top. :(
Thanks. :) Yes my project is heavy on the art nouveau visuals, as well as Tim Burtons "The Nightmare Before Christmas"

Ok.. I've added a preloader and a main page at the beggining that opens the swf file into a new window. This window allows you to resize the web page, so that should keep everyone happy about the stage size.
Is this an okay way of doing it.? Or is it bad practice.?
Does anyone know of a way of hiding the GetURL code appearing in the URL bar when you click the Gallery images.?
Does anyone still see the wierd text aliasing.? or whatever it is, it appears fine on my PC.
Can people resize and scroll the popup windows.? You aren't supposed to be able to. Once again this seems to work on my PC.
Thanks for all the advice and replys guys. :)
P.S. Once I get the main stuff sorted out I was wanting to add a chat room in the page. Anyone have any advice on that.?
