The question I would like to ask is if a swf is small say 8kb or smaller do you need a preloader??

No, not with 8kb... But if you think that you will add some more stuff later on, it won't hurt to put one though... :)

I didn't do much, but you're welcome... :D
Just from the experience... (I hate preloader myself though...)
I'd think of putting one around 50k and if the file size goes to 100k, I sure will put one... Oh... In case you are using FMX, I am talking about the uncompress SWF's size, not the compressed one... I don't know much, but I don't really see much differences between two... So I am going with the lower standard on this one... :)

Yup... As I have said earlier, I won't put the preloader on 40k movie unless the site that I am working on has really lots of external movie files that needs to be loaded dynamically or if there is any chance that 40k movie can be 400k movie near future... :D

Is there a way to adjust the height and width to a get url action and if so what the scripting to it. I seem to be having a problem.
I would like it to be a certain size when loading.
