Im a designer (who has stumbled into web and flash work) and am currently putting together a flash movie for inclusion on this page:

http://www.marlindigitalpublishing.co.uk/max_editions/samples.html

As you can see the flash item at the bottom of the page moves along on a mouse click - however what i need it to do is to repeat. So that when you get to the current end it starts again with the first one and then we go again. Can anyone help in how i can achieve this (other than just repeating the buttons in the movie clip)? The covers are buttons in a movie clip that is then imported to another movie clip which makes up the whole thing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello and welcome to the forums.

I'm also a former Art Director who got hooked into web and Flash work (about 10 years ago). My first piece of advice is run away from this career path like a crazed banshee.

Although Photoshop has continuously advanced over the years - the fundamental structure of the program (as an image editor) has remained basically the same. Even though you probably use InDesign now as opposed to Quark XPress - they're both basically page layout programs with some nice little features to make your designs better for print.

On the complete opposite side of the known "communications universe" is "web work" or "Interactive". This field changes like the wind - or - Michael Jackson's nose. The technology and application of that technology changes so fast that someone coming right out of school today is obsolete.

However, being a creative person myself I'm sure none of my warnings will dissuade you from experience the "cool new world" of Interactive.

So, here's my help...

What you currently have is most likely a single movie-clip of images that moves left and right. Everything is contained in the Flash. What you are asking for is something you likely saw on another site. These types of repeating "sliders" are generally built using actionscript and XML. In this way the images (captions, links and anything else you want in the slider) are external items that can be dynamically added to the slider bar. What you currently have you probably can not use to make what you want.

So... I would suggest (as a new Flash designer) that you start off and purchase a Flash Slider from another resource. Then either customize that or use it as is. You might want to look at (note: you may want to look at other files on these 2 sites to find one that best matches your need)...

Final thought: As a future resource - check out http://www.gotoandlearn.com -- there's a bunch of great video tutorials on how to do Flash. Even one for a slider (slthough, that one doesn't repeat - like you want it to).

Good luck with it.
