Here is my work in progress site, I would like some feed back of what you guys may think of it (it is fairly functional but not 100%).

Hi... :)
Don't get me wrong, but I went into the site with that credential and I had to close the window with this thought in my mind... What was Dat???
I wasn't sure what the site/page was supposed to be and how it should work... You probably need some explanation on what the site is about and such... Just my 2 cents... ;)

I put an explaination on the main page, is that not a good enough explaination?
What is the point?
This is a way for you to tell people about things you may have found on the internet. There are billions of things on the internet to share with friends, family, co-workers or anyone that just uses the internet. When you added some sort of media, everyone or just some of the people on your friends list will instantly be notified! They then can leave you comments on what you have just posted!

Honestly, I don't really get what you have there... Yeah... You can call me dumb, but that paragraph does not really help me visualize the service you are providing... It kinda does, but that still is too generic to me which almost makes me think like it is pretty much the samething as services like Twitter or something similar to that...

It is close to twitter, the difference is that you don't tell pople what you are doing, you just share links with your friends such as: videos, image, games, news, or what ever you find on the internet.

You've got to step the design up a little bit; it's very web 1.0 at the mo.
Give people more info. People hate to click 'register' without a lot of encouragement. let people see a page without signing up.

If that is web 1.0, what would your recommend, and what is web 1.0?

The site is too plain and looks last generation. You shouldn't place a huge drop shadow under your hook-like-pattern-thing, and the colors you use are not eye-catching.
Also, I have no idea what the site does, it seems quite pointless. (Sorry.) I attached a jpeg of a non-existent site that I made that proves that even a simple site design made in under an hour without a single picture can look nice (sort of).

What's an advantage of "You Got Dat?" over facebook for example?

I've inserted the first ever URL to share, it was "www.aria.ru". After "generating preview" I got a link made of "?" symbols.
After I clicked it I got internal server error. Wow!
The only thing, "You Got Dat?" is for, failed to perform.
I'm sure the project is doomed to failure. It has no new idea to bring and it has less features than existing opponent "sharing" web-systems.

LiveJournal, BlogSpot, WebPress, Facebook, VKontakte, Twitter... Tonns of them. They all do it, but do something more!

romantique, I think your being a little too harsh, instead of telling him that his website sucks and is doomed to fail and all that, maybe you should actually tell him how to improve. (and please don't double post, thanks)
Maybe give him a site template as a reference like I did or something, I don't know, just try to be more constructive with your criticism.

Rather than explain web 1.0, you should visit this link, which I think will help you greatly:

Design is something quite hard to explain, my main complaint is that your site lacks a proper navigation system, banner, illustrations of any sort, or even a bright vibrant color.
This site gets it wrong in many places, but I'm sure with a bit of practice you should be fine, I was like that 1 year ago as well :p Just try your best!

The reason you get question marks, is because the title is not supported by the font face I chose, here was the real title: Официальный сайт группы "Ария"
I am hoping the site won't fail for these reasons:
1. It will soon automatically add to your facebook/myspace sharing thing.
2. It will email friends about websites the user found
3. It will text mesage friends about websites the user found
4. Its fast
5. It a different way to share information
Thanks for the links, I will look over them a.s.a.p.

To improve something you need to have something to improve. Yes, he can polish the site... But the idea will continue to be doomed.
Please, I don't intend to offend someone. It's just my opinion. Probably, when "You Got Dat" will be the topmost among social networks, The Little Guy will find my post and will laugh at me.

Aww, he probably doesn't expect it to be the next facebook. I guess he's just doing it for fun, like most of us.
