View Full Version : 3rd party class review. With a Pool! (hopefully)
There's more and more 3rd party classes out there, so many in fact that it's hard to know them all or try them all. What if actionscript.org opens a 3rd party class review? People who used these classes could give a rating. Was it hard to use? was it easy? Did it do its job well? And so on. Now probably this can't be done without the agreement of the authors of the classes but anyway I ask the question, should a 3rd party class review be created on actionscript.org?

I like this. But one thing I think would be important to account for is class/library versions. If someone writes a review, it should be explicitly tied to a specific version so that it can't be held accountable against a newer version which may have addressed these issues.
That's a good point. It all depends on what's possible here on actionscript.org in terms of implementing a review system, it might actually not be even possible. But I like the idea of having categories of AS 3rd party libraries with a system of star ratings (much like you can rate article here) and then for people who want to know more, they can access for each library a comment section and also add to the comment section (comment approved by admin only). This could become (ideally) an important resource for developers looking for 3rd party library to help them make judicious choices but also for library authors to learn more about what people experienced when using their library and what strong or weak points their libraries have.
Ha well I'm just dreaming out loud!:)
Based on whats being described, the article system could handle that. I'm sure with a few tweaks it wouldnt overly difficult to implement.
