Reducing audio latency

I have an application where one user publishes a live stream (audio only) to other clients. I encode at 22Khz and notice that there is about a 500ms latency. Even lower encoding rates experience a similar latency.

I tried streaming from a PC with a Creative Live! Cam microphone as well as from and iMac all with about the same results.

The latency is only an issue for me at Trade Shows whilst demoing the product so I am not concerned about a temporary fix that might hurt scalability.

Sounds like the trade show is not beefey enough connection. maybe already saturated or maybe a leg is wireless.

Bring a small laptop to run the server software locally.
