Hi,

I've been developing some basic games with Adobe Flash CS, and now I would like them to be available mobile phones, so I though about using Flash Lite. But I don't know almost anything about Flash Lite, so I've a couple of questions:

1) What is Flash Lite platform status compared to other development platforms (such as Java)? Is it widely spread compared to the competing platforms? Do you recommend me to go on with Flash Lite?

2) Is there any portability between Flash and Flash Lite? Is the source code compatible? Or can you at least reuse most of your Flash code with minour changes?

Thank you very much for your answers.

Hi,

"1) What is Flash Lite platform status compared to other development platforms (such as Java)?"

Flash Lite platform offers some advantage and disadvantage compared to J2ME.

+++++
- You don't have to write 200 version of your code for your swf to work on every different mobile phone (compared to J2ME where it's the case)
- You can target all recent Windows Mobile/Symbian phones.
- Easy and fast development (ActionScript 2)
-----
- You can't access file system and system call (GPS, communication, etc.) unless you use a plugin.
Plugins I use are :
>>> Janus-Flash for Flash Lite 2.1
>>> Kunerilite for Symbian Flash Lite 3.0
- You can't develop on iPhone using Flash...

"Is it widely spread compared to the competing platforms?"
Flash Lite is only used for some types of applications :
- Games
- Screensavers
- Mini Application/Tool/Utility using Plugins (tourism for example, etc.)

"Do you recommend me to go on with Flash Lite?"
It all depends on what you expect to do.
