The alphwbets or the words rather that appear in the about page which appears when you click on the button in the main which shows a face in the center of the cross on rollover!!

If i understood well, this is made with photoshop.

It's most likely done with masking or an effect similar to this tutorial: http://www.actionscripts.org/tutorials/intermediate/animating_text_with_actionscript/index.shtml

Just wiht less fancy animation.
