how do I download the zip files from this site they show up on my desktop as php3 files?

what - all of them?
Could be that you need to reset your associations for these types of file.

Are you on a mac or a pc?
Can you open up the .phps in notepad (or other word editor) and if so, are you seeing php code or garbage?
