Hi guys, as you already know we no longer displaying signatures for registered users due to a huge amount of spam via fake users.
I think we found a solution on how to deal with this issue.
We testing a script which will disable a signature in case if user didn't visit the actionscript.org for at list 15 days.
If user came back on actionscript.org, his/her signature will start displaying again on next day.
So, most of you guys should get the signature back in next few days.
Hey guys, there's some changes to the rules, please check the link below:

Sounds like a neat little feature.

Just a random thought...
If a new user signs up, put that user into a usergroup where they are not allowed to create a signature nor create any visitor messages... and then move them up to a usergroup where they have full features once they post like 50 messages...
Not sure if that can be done automatically or not, but just thinking outloud...
Thanks, Strok... ;)
ACtually there's some forums where you can't post links in your post until you did 50 posts or so. So all this makes sense.

Now I can imagine myself trying to sneak in the link to AS library I've written to the hostile forum that won't allow me to post it untill my PC will count 50... yeah... ;)
Or another sort of forums (experts[dash]exchange[dot]com -like, eternally banned from each and every computer / network I had any access to :P ) because you have to pay to view the posts... (though they are visible to SE)
Sorry, this reminded me of the "war" AP lost to Google, when they wanted Google to display AP's copyrights on their images... Google refused to display them at all... ;) You can imagine what happened next...

Hi CyanBlue,
That was my original idea, but I wasn't able to find the script to perform the task. Apparently, I found this feature directly built into the vbulletin (under Usergroup Promotions) .
So we have a change of the rules now :)
To display a signature you need at list 50 posts!

Quick Reply... Hm... Who use IE??? :p
wvxvw... Regarding EE, you don't have to pay for it to see the answers there... It's all there at the bottom of the screen even if it says pay us... Just google for something like 'actionscript site:experts-exchange.com' and scroll all the way down where it says Solution... ;)

Strok... Can you somehow throw in this into the usergroup policy as well???
Could be cool to not be able to post links AND pictures until you get 50 posts like that no SPAMMMM anymore!

Yeah... Some of the broken signatures look quite bad... :(

Personally I don't think we can do this because I know a lot of users will want to post links to their broken FLA, or similar, in their first 50 posts...

So it appears that sigs aren't working for anyone other that moderators... Let me check with Strok to see what's up, and if we can't fix it in the next few days we'll return things to normal and look for another solution.

In fact that's what many new users do, post broken flas whcih they can't fix, I see them very often.

I have my signature and I'm not a moderator! Maybe it's moderator and authors ...

True, you are listed as a Site Contributor, and yours is working... More evidence to go on that it's a user-permission based issue...
In fact that's what many new users do, post broken flas whcih they can't fix, I see them very often.
It makes sense I did not think about that. But thinking further they often have to do that because the size limit of the zip file they can add is very small so what about making it bigger?

Actually why don't we just allow everyone to post their flas straight in instead of zipping it up?

So far I remember vB limits total size of attachments one user can have. And that's not to much (around 50M, if I remember well), and, actually, hosting files of 50M+ at the forum expense isn't very good idea... just because you'll need additional space on the server + more traffic -> pay more for the hosting...

Jesse, xxneon is a moderator and his signature is not working...
As for the file attachment... I think we've got to educate people so that they can create a sample out of their working copy so that they can strip out the part that is not causing problem and then upload it to the forum... That way, the probably learn what's going on in their file and could potentially solve the problem by themselves... and if they upload the file to the forum, we have that information in tact as well...

The signatures were disabled in the last VB update (part of update), as you can see my signature is not showing-up as well.
I'll look into it tomorrow morning again, will perform a new update of VB software too.

Looks like the sigs are back, thanks Strok!
Should we remove any tags out of the signature, or is that being worked on too?
Thanks for your time!

Well Paul, I used your account a test account, and changed your user group to try and get your signature links working. When we put you in the rescticted group, your signature doesn't show up at all, as we hope (this is to prevent spammers with signatures). When I put you back in your normal group, the signature shows but the links don't work.
I also tried making you a site contributer, a moderator and a few other types of user, but nothing seemed to fix it. I think perhaps it may be the code itself in your footer which is the issue...
Jesse

OK, I fixed it. It was a usergroups permission error. Newbie users still wont have signatures (to protect against spammers) but regulars will.
