Hello everyone, i am ready to finish this site ( www.molosgroup.com ) , it is already done … i would like your feedback on performance, usability, how easy its to naviage ( going to put submenus ) and other things.
And please can you post PC specs too.
Also i have a question, why after loading all thumbs it still don’t show them immediately, or dont show them at all ??
Sometimes clearing cache solves this problem.?
Thanks :)

On first inspection, the "Navigate using the mouse wheel" prompt seemed really confusing, as flicking the mouse wheel about sort of did nothing. Anyway the performance is rock solid, nothing wrong with that, and the site feels cool to navigate through.
Overall I'd say that you have a good concept and you sure do have talent, keep it up!
Processor --- Some AMD based CPU, I've no idea what it actually is because I'm using my grandfather's computer at this time:p

The mouse wheel scrolling idea is quite exceptional. Never would have thought of that. The short wait fot the rest of the content to load did make me think the site was not working though. Maybe you should put something like wait for content.
The thumbnail spraying out idea was great and I did not have any problems figuring out what to do.
The navigation system for browsing the pictures is good but when the picture size changes, the buttons move to fit the picture. This is a nice touch, but when people are quickly trying to browse through the pictures and they have to keep trying to catch the buttons, it can be confusing.

I too thought it was quite clever, clean, and elegant. My only critique, which may not be feasible, is that after you click on a thumbnail and it opens the gallery where you can scroll back and forth, you should keep the left and right buttons in a fixed position because it's a little frustrating having to keep moving your mouse to "catch" them when they move.
Otherwise, grade A!

Thanks for your feedback guys...
kkbbcute, what browser are you using ??
cjx3711, when did you have to wait for content to load ?
dannyhouk & cjx3711 , i will think of any other place to put next/prev buttons, so they will have fixed position ;)

How come you can't use the menu if a picture is open, you first have to close it. You might want to work that out.
Other than that, the site looks great, simple and user friendly. Good work.

Hey, eddiewireless i fixed that so now menu works even if photo is opened :)

Just curious, how did you come up with this idea of using your scroll wheel in your site?
Pllum

First i was going to put only scroll wheel, but then i thought that not everyone have wheel on mouse, then i put the menu.
The idea for it just came :)

Cool, though what happens on computers or mobile devices with small screens? They won't be able to see a thing, would they?

i dont know about mobile devices, but its still usable for smallers screens, maybe i will put the site a bit lower so the X in galleries will show on smallers screens too ( on tall images ) ... but as i see the statistics only 4% of users are using 800x600 resolutions, and in any resolution bigger than this it should show ok ...

Hmmm, but a lot of ppl do use their mobile devices to surf the web nowadays you know, its an ever increasing number!
Three things:
1. http://blog.pixelbreaker.com/flash/swfmacmousewheel/
Damn Adobe for not putting mousewheel support into the mac plugin, but pixelbreaker has provided the solution. A lot of creatives use Macs, and I suspect a lot of creatives are visiting your site.
2. The fountain of thumbnails could probably be written more memory efficiently. I notice in Safari's activity monitor that as the fountain is shooting out thumbnails, you're constantly reloading each image. After 15 seconds of watching a thumbnail fountain, the activity list for your site has over 1000 server requests in it. It's not a bandwidth issue thanks to browser caching, but I suspect you're constantly creating new Loader objects instead of loading once and copying the bitmap data.
3. What does the circle in the upper right do?
Nice site though, and nice work as well.

Creatives aren't the ones that will be wanting to visit his site. Employers are. That said, Macs do support the option for dual OSes, so it shouldn't really be a problem, compatibility issues are a fact of life when working with macs.

Well that's a piss-poor attitude for a developer to have. Those potential employers might be on a Mac too. I understand that creatives might not be the target market, but the fact remains that they are going to be part of the market. A website should serve your customer's needs first, but it still has to serve everyone. You can't stop people from visiting your website, and if they come to it to find that it doesn't work, it reflects poorly on you.
Saying "**** it, if my site doesn't work that's their problem" is a sign of a lazy programmer. In cross-browser compatibility, there will always be a level of acceptable differences, but having the primary means of navigation not functioning is unacceptable. Swfmacmousewheel is very easy to implement, and wouldn't require a significant amount of effort to add post-launch.
Suggesting that Mac users dual-boot OSes just to view a website is absolutely ridiculous. If you think ignoring the Mac market is fine, you obviously haven't been paying attention to its growth over the last decade.

Not suggesting it, just saying that sometimes, there's a trade off for developing for certain platforms that you can do nothing about.
But in this case, he can very easily do something about it.

@Pllum: Nice work sir. The scroll nav is a pretty nifty trick. The thing that really makes it stand out, IMO, is the fact that you did not neglect to add a more traditional style nav-bar. Many users might not get it at first. Many users may not want to have to figure out the mouse scroll trick (even though you spell it out very well). The fact that you thought of that really speaks volumes about your attention to detail.
The only thing I'm a little iffy on is the little wheel widget in the top right corner. As a user, it seems a little redundant to me. If you've got your scrollbar implementation (which works very well), and your traditional nav bar (which almost every user will inherrently know how to use), I don't think you really need the extra little wheel control. Very minor though... it doesn't interfere with the experience of your site.
But in this case, he can very easily do something about it.
You're wasting your breath on that one. Just do like I did and put him on ignore. ;)

If there's one thing I'm very sure of, it's that it'll be more important for him to get a site up that'll be compatible with thing like netbooks/UMPCs, or other mobile devices, which I'm sure will grow to become a huge market in the future. Currently, although Mac users can't use their scroll wheel, they can still navigate through the site using the main navigation bar, but for people on mobile devices, the site won't even fit on their screen.
Seeing that a large number of people surf on the go, which is more important, to get a component of the site, or to fix the whole site? Obviously, it would be to fix the whole site for the people who can't even view view it.
And who said I was ignorant of Macs or anything, it's just statistical analysis ;)

Nice site, I love the sleek design and it's good to navigate through. Loved the idea of the scrollwheel, though I was a little confused at the beginning with the loading bar, I did try scrolling and nothing was happening.
Other than that, it's a great, solid site. Nice idea!

Exactly what I was thinking of!;) Then again, there is no where else that you can put the instructions... Oh well...

Thanks for feedback Ev..
1. Yes my friend told me that mousewheel doesnt work in mac, and i am going to fix that. Everyone should be able to use all features of the site.
2. You i am creating new Loader each time thumb is created... I need to save all images to bitmapdata and then just copy it when needed.
3. It is one way to navigate the site but i am not so sure if well keep it.

Thanks yell0wdart.
First i put only mousewheel for navigation but then thought that not everyone have it, so then i put the nav bar. now its much easier to navigate through the site.
And well think again about that that circle in upper-left side. :)

I'm not very savy on mobile tecnology, but...
Which mobile devices suport Flash 9 and 10? or even 8?
by the way, awesome site... Innovating in navigation is a pain, but it pays of.

The majority of mobile devices don't. That's why I encouraged him to get a html site as well.
