This is just a quick announcement regarding the recent ban of one of our users.
After receiving many complaints from our members we came to a conclusion that we must ban the user Atomic from ActionScript.org.
We appreciate his positive contributions over the years, but were no longer able to tolerate his abuse of other members.

Good move imao he was getting out of control to say the least.

Bare in mind, part of what led to this was that fact that he's had a few accounts banned in the past. It really is a shame, because if you combined all his posts, he was probably around 50K.

Agreed, although I don't want to come across too soft on these issues. We've learned from bitter experience that trying to play mediator in these situations is sometimes just impossible, and from now on will be acting in a much more direct fashion when it comes to banning members who are not behaving as we see fit. And yes, that may make me sound slightly undemocratic or heavy handed, but them's the breaks.

True, but who's perfect? I think I'm actually doing a lot better now. What can I say, dealing with people is more complicated than dealing with code, but I'm learning.;)

I agree... code is simple than people.
Sometimes i forgot that we must preserve a polite space here in the forums and in human reality.

Well, I think that being a moderator must be a hard work. Conflict resolution is one of the hardest things in the world.

As a moderator, most of my time is spent removing spam/spammers and smacking myself in the forehead because of the lack of us of the AS tag in posts....

Especially that last point:p

Since this is the official Atomic thread I thought it was more appropriate to post this here. Here are a few thoughts regarding Atomic after seeing a question about him.

what the heck does atomic do for a living? lol.
I think he works as a film editor.

Atomic, is a very accomplished and successful: Writer, Editor, Director, Cinematographer with 40+ years experience in the film industry on an international level.

I would guess he picked up Flash out of his interests in media and the emerging video and audio capabilities within flash for the internet years ago. Through his own desire to learn he also took time to help others, both here and on other Flash communities across the internet under various identities. I don't really know the full history of the miscues and short comings regarding some of his posts and interactions with others here or elsewhere but you can not deny his willingness and ability to help others on the various forums when it comes to Flash and other related technologies. I am sure his ability to help people far outweighs the shortcomings but those decisions and actions are solely up to the individual community owners and you also have to respect and understand that. Having said that I don't think there is any reason to diminish Atomic since he is gone, his abilities and his eager willingness to assist and help people. Sadly his absence does impact the communities. But people should be thankful for him as various forums are filled with many thousands of helpful threads and many more thousands of thankful people and those whom have come across his posts that were helped with their problems through Atomics gracious assistance and time.

I cant really say I understand some of Atomics actions lately that brought about him being banned, but I do appreciate his generosity to help others, which was again demonstrated in his desire to continue to help after being banned, through other accounts which again have been removed.

I believe Atomic is a kind and generous person, no doubt with flaws like all of us (Who doesn't have flaws amongst us right?), so its rather needless and immature for us to judge him or speak bad of him now that he is gone.

Thanks for reading and more importantly thank you Atomic for all your years of helping others with your skills, knowledge, and time.

Hope to see you around someday ;)

No one denied that Atomic helped a lot of people not even me! Obviously that's not where the problem was. From my point of view, Atomic came to a point where he thought he was not only indispensable for actionscript.org (no one is of course) but also kind of the boss around, allowing himself to do whatever he wanted like disrespect other, insulting, discrediting actionscript.org community, answering post by private message which was bad for actionscript.org forums in term of search engine visitors and all that because he wasn't happy about technical problems that everyone else just waited patiently to be resolved (which they are now). I'm guessing it wasn't an easy decision from actionscript.org team to ban him but they had to decide whether his help to other people was compensating enough for his megalomaniac behavior. They decided not.

Yes ASWC thats why I posted this in my post, however without rehashing everything in formal detail. I was not questioning the forum owners decision but rather Atomics own decisions and actions as I can not speak for him, nor can any of us.

Liswise...

...... I'm guessing it wasn't an easy decision from actionscript.org team to ban him but they had to decide whether his help to other people was compensating enough for his megalomaniac behavior. They decided not.

I also acknowledged this fact...

those decisions and actions are solely up to the individual community owners and you also have to respect and understand that.

I respect both parties involved and wish nothing but the best for this great Flash community, its owners and its wonderful members as well as Atomic in his future endeavors elsewhere.

Some good points made above. Agree it's not approriate to speak about someone after they've been banned and aren't able to respond. For that reason, I'm closing this thread.
