Check published stream

Is there a way to check server side if the published stream is "live" or "record"? I want to see if I'm recording or not.

The administration console allow you to access this information

I want to have a record button and a Live button. If you click on either it does that. I want to have the netstream on the server side and I can only get it to record and not go live. Any idea?
