show only the first three lines of content field in my rss reader

I built an rss reader from this really cool tutorial at thegoldenmean.com. I actually learned a lot from it on how to pull the data from my wordpress blog. After many prior attempts only yielded the title. One thing they failed to cover, and I haven't been able to figure out, is how to show only the first three lines or so of the content field. I would post the code, but there is code in many different locations. Luckily there are sample files on the tutorial site that are basically the same, just personalized. i am providing the link below. I would appreciate any help that you guys could offer.
