Hello All,
I've just finished my 'reinterpretation' of the classic Atari game Centipede and I'm looking for some initial feedback.
The game is at www.flashbynight.com/nanopedes
Hope you enjoy it.
The easing that you've put on the movement of the player's sprite totally ruins the ability to control things nicely. When I release the arrow, my sprite should stop in place.
Put in the ability to use the mouse as a controller, too. Some people prefer that.
Also, I totally cleared the level and nothing happened...the "nanopedes" just kept coming.

Indeed, the easing makes it very difficult to control. Even worse, it's possible to get the character stuck in an endless creep, where it constantly moves small fractions of pixels and you cannot make it stop without pressing the opposite direction.
Also, why is it that some of my shots move faster than others? Do they slow down as they reach the top of the screen? Why?

Personally, I would say you completely scrap the keyboard controls in favor of using your mouse to move around, after all, it feels more natural and gets rid of the need for easing, remember, you don't have to code in everything you know in a project in an attempt to impress, sometimes, the simplest things work best. Also, the graphical style seems a little plain, but that's not a big problem right now.

Okay, thanks everyone. I get the picture, the easing has to go, and I'll add mouse control as an option or the default control.
What I was trying to do with the easing actually was capture the feel of the original centipede game, which was also difficult to control. But never mind.
As for the other issues - the level doesn't finish when the mushrooms are cleared, it finishes when 10 nanopedes have been killed or escaped. But I guess I should make that clear from the off.
So these are the things I'm going to change. I'll get round to it in a couple of days.
Thanks for the feedback, all.
