Yup, I'm new, and I joined mostly to inquire about this. Can anyone analyze that video good enough to tell me what steps one can take to mimic and make a similar game to the video? Or has someone here made something similar? I really need interacting ships like this to begin a new game I'm working on as I learn more AS3.

You can make that in AS3 using bitmapdata, along with the concept of particles(handling of large number of objects, and their behaviours, from a central control routine)!

You can't make that if you don't know AS atleast to an intermediate level, or are too imaptient! Go to 8bitrockets.com and start learning use of bitmapdata!
