Hi.

I've been pulling my hair out over the last few weeks trying to figure out how to create a simple scrolling tile engine for an RPG. I would assume there are hundreds of tutorials on this, but everything I find is too difficult for me, or I'm missing a small concept here and there so it makes no sense.

Does anyone have any recommendations on books, websites, ect that will teach me what I need to know to get started with designing a tile based world without over complicating things?

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

this guy (http://www.escapetheory.com.au) has a game in the works, and his tutorials are geared toward games, it could be helpful.

I am also reading Essential ActionScript 3 by Colin Moock which is a really really good.

I've heard that Colin Moocks books are NOT for beginners. But maybe I'll give it a try. I'm also giving that source code a look. Thanks.

Anyone else know of any good sources for learning?

Learning/Understanding is subjective to each individual and we all learn differently, so its hard to say if either of these will be relative to your needs, but perhaps they will help.

Regarding books, maybe this one for some general concepts?
