Hi,
I import a lot of stuff from illustrator when i work with flash. I have discovered that meshes imports it self as bitmap. Is there a way round this? If not do you think adobe will support meshes in coming versions of flash? I have searched for this but can't find anything. Are there any general guide lines when working with both Illustrator and flash?
Regards
Johan

What version of Illustrator and Flash are you using. Regardless this is the information for Illustrator CS4 (the latest version) so if this is what it says for CS4 its probably safe to assume its the same or worse for older versions. ;-)
Adobe Illustrator CS4

Keep the following information in mind when preparing artwork to save as SWF:

......
Mesh objects and gradients with more than eight stops are rasterized and will appear as bitmap-filled shapes. Gradients with fewer than eight stops are exported as gradients.

.
Hope it helps. See the link above for more information.

Thanks! good info and videos. I have CS4, really hope they fix the meshes and gradients for CS5.
Your welcome. It might be a file size issue Adobe is concerned with, hard to say. Maybe they will find a solution for keeping vector meshes and gradients in an upcoming version.

gradient mesh would probably be too processor-intensive for an interactive application.
ie: it would hammer your framerate
^ That too. (CPU intense)
Maybe someday we will have 3D objects wrapped in vector mesh with animating mesh, like in 2025 :p
Hope it helps. See the link above for more information.
No doubt man, good info, this is something I've been wondering about for years now...
We get eps files from our illustrators that we import into swfs. We typically get a handful in every batch that are filled with raster junk we have to clean out. If it's as simple as asking the illus to use less stops in their gradients that seems like a pretty easy way to save us a bunch of time.

Keep us posted on that. Best wishes getting the creative folks to scale back ;)
