downloading external files to desktop?

Can anyone tell me the best way to download external files (PDFs) from a server to my desktop. I’m trying to give visitors the option of downloading one of three files from a banner I’m working on. Thanks. :confused:

I'd ZIP the PDF file if I am doing it...

I believe that PDF files will be open into the web browser with the Acrobat plugin 90% of the case, whereas ZIP files will probably be asked if the user wants to download or open that file 98% of the time...
