Total Beginner questions

Hi there, I am totally new to Flash and actionscript and am totally stuck.

First and foremost I was wondering if anyone had any links to good tutorial websites or books I can buy.

Secondly...

I have got as far as making a slideshow of images that I want as a background and I want them to loop continuously. On the same file, I have some objects that I would like to be buttons and they I have animated them but they loop aswell and I want them to stop. If I use action script to stop them, the images stop aswell as they are layers beneath the objects. Can I stop this? Sorry if this doesnt make any sense!

A long with ASWC's tutorials, I have learned a lot from Lynda.com and kirupa.com. I also bought Moock's book "Essential ActionScript 3.0".
If you know nothing about programming it's a steep learning curve to say the least. Stick with it.
I am in the same boat as you but people like ASWC, MaskedMan, CyanBlue and the rest of the regulars here are great guides!
