At the company you work, what is your main responsibility as a Flash Developer?
What do they ask you, to use your AS and Flash knowledge for?
:D

Question: by "Flash Developer" do you only understand the people using the Flash IDE to get things done or you are actually refering to people that use different tools / frameworks to build content for the Flash Player / AIR ? Also, "Flash Developer" is a bit general... Could you maybe narrow this down a bit ( for example: game developement, software developement ( more complex applications ), web design ( mainly web sites) and so on )?
I'm asking this because some people only refer to the guys using the Flash IDE when they say "Flash Developer" and others understand the whole technology when saying "Flash", so including Flex developers, AIR developers, Game Developers and so on ( essentially, anyone who creates content for the Flash Player / AIR ).

I make the coffee mostly ...
Yeah, that's nice... I'm responsible for the tea... Maybe we should share some coffee / tea making "tips and tricks" one day ( even write a book or something )...
I write trendy code such as this...
if (pants == onTheGround){ lookingLikeAFool = true; }

Hey I know this one! That's the pingouin trick!

That's not trendy... This is:
lookingLikeAFool = pants == onTheGround;
:)
^ I will try to get a raise with that optimization over coffee/tea tomorrow.

Yes, this is what I mean. Just by reading this I see the Flash Field is far larger then I thought.
if (pants == onTheGround)
{
lookingLikeAFool = true;
}
if (:confused:==:rolleyes:)
{
:confused:=:p;
return "Fek is aware of his foolish nature"
}
if (pants == up)
{
lookingLikeAFool = true;
//might be true anyway!
}

@FEK315: Sorry, but I don't think your reply actually answered my questions. It's like asking "do you want coffee, tea or beer?" and you answer "yes" :) So, again, what are you exactly interested in knowing and which field is of most interest to you?

humm...Then, I guess my answer is " What beverages do you have?" :eek:
I am sorry this may be a huge question.
I know I am interested in Using AS.30 and my design skills. I think creating class libraries might get boaring after a while although I am not opposed to doing "production AS" for a while until I get good.
I seem to be leaning toward internet and or Phone banners, websites, and games.
Does that kind of help? :confused:
@ASWC
//might be true anyway!
more like
//is true...:rolleyes::cool:
if (pants == onTheGround){ lookingLikeAFool = true; }
For anyone who does not know what that was a reference to, its all over the news/google. Rather funny...

I thought it was about the joke about the prostitute ...

:o Ah no. Is that what pingouin is then?
Well you know it's the guy, he has only $20 and he goes see a p.... And she says for $20 I can only do a pinguin. The guy says ok great! So she says put your pants down, the guy does it and then she starts to walk away and the guy tries to follow saying "hey what about the pinguin?" but you can imagine how the way he walks looks...
Sorry guys if it's inappropriate ...

Thank you for listening to my question. Now I see its a crazy question. When I first got into computers, AS was limited to just the web. Obviously it has exploded into all types of fields.

Well, things haven't changed too much... it's true that we have AIR now, but AIR is a bit far from what other platforms offer when it comes to desktop application. Anyway, it exists... If you are interested in development then you should learn OOP and get familiar with Design Patterns. Those two things are "a must" when it comes to more serious development... if you are more into design, then go with the Flash IDE and learn the minimum programming needed to get your things rolling...
Game development IMHO is one of the hardest fields because it also requires insane math and physics skills beside programming. Usually, people run away from math so mainly, that's why I consider it "hard"... but if you take math and the other stuff out of the equation, then it's no more special than software development...

:)
This is great! Thank you.
I was thinking of games, but I am awful when it come to math.
The next book I am going to work through is going to be AS design patterns and then the AS cook book
.
Right now, I am on the verge of creating a simple portfolio site. I only have 4 examples of websites I have created that are still on the web. The others have all since disappeared.
Thank you for the direction I think webdesign is were i will focus. I guess that means brushing up on HTML CSS, learning JavaScript, PHP, My SQL, any onthers?
