[AS3] Possible to launch an external video with actionscript?

Hello. I'm going to be releasing a video (avi) and a light media player with it (windows media player classic). I wanted to do a "dvd" style flash menu,
however I'm unsure how I could launch the .avi with the media player
via a flash button, if that's even possible. I have quite a bit of programming experience (c++,Java,some actionscript) however I'm a little rusty and just stuck. Any help/suggestions? By the way, I'm choosing do it this way because I don't want to compress the video in a lossy FLV.

Yea it is. Was hoping it would be PC + Mac friendly. Air seems to be over my head tho. :/

you could use a bat file and launch it with the fscommand, although im not sure if a .bat is mac friendly.
