Hi all
i'm looking for a program that I can open a pic with it, tell it to convert it to how many smaller/puzzles like pix
and save it into a sequence of pix

Ok, I looked and looked, and I don't think there is one. There's an Illustrator plugin by a third party that makes a puzzle shape for you, or you could make your own in Illustrator, then use that to cut the image apart in Photoshop. Or,you could make one in Illustrator, bring it into flash and make the stroke really really small, you could then break apart your bitmap, put the stroke over it, and then you'll have lots of little bitmaps you can then group to make lots of different little pictures. You could then export them as Jpg's through flash if they're in a sequence of frames..I think, I'm not sure. But yeah, I don't think there's a program that does it for you. You could try see how hard it is to do in photoshop once you've got a pattern, and then set it to do those actions automatically for you using the automate tasks feature.

Easy way... :)

Print out the master picture of the puzzle...
Have your daughter tear it apart until you are satisfied...
Scan all the individual pieces into the computer and make them useful...

:D

I tried to look up the program for a while when I first saw your post... and I got no result at all... Did you see any kind of the program before or are you just scratching the surface??? :)

BOOOOOOOooooooooooooo

I didn't see any pro like that b4, but I'm sure there is one, imagine that you wanna make a big puzzle game with at least 25 pieces, if u r gonna make it manully like Greencardman suggested, u r gonna end with no hair over the head

Well... If you BOO, then you are not helping your daughter... Have her grow some artistic talents... :D

Come to think of it, I think I have seen some of those jigsaw puzzle programs where you can use your own picture to create a puzzle to play... Maybe that could be one way of doing it, I guess???

Just for your information, I DID tear picture apart to create a puzzle long long time ago... It took more time to scan them though... Remember how slow the scanner was long time ago??? :D

If this will be used in Flash, why not make as many copies of your image as you have pieces then mask out the selected area with a puzzle shape? You'd only need one shape and you could use it to slice your image into as many pieces as necessary.

Just an idea,

I was thinking about that too. And Lifaros made a nice picture splitting prototype in Fresh Flash if you're interested.

If I'm not mistaken it's here: http://www.friendsofed.com/books/flash_mx_titles/fresh_flash/code.html under Lifaros1. But he splits an image into triangles, so if you use his script, you're going to have to change quite a few things :)

If you really think it can't be done, why are you working on it? ;)

Besides, it's already been done (link (http://www.smallblueprinter.com/ver5.html)). Well, not exactly, but pretty close.

Hi Pixelwit:
I browsed everywhere for a puzzle that lets you exchange images on the fly. Your's looks exceptionally well done.
Unfortunatelly the link (http://www.pixelwit.com/temp/puzzle.zip) to your puzzle doesn't work anymore. Are you still sharing the code?

the macromedia one hurts my brain with its use of bitmap as a fill for the puzzle pieces. Any clue on how to change the image on that one?

Merci

I think he posted it in the Movies section, maybe
also there is a tut in the tutorials section

hmm, I could have made a php script that cuts your image in predefined shapes, but I guess its better this way.

I figured I'd add another option.

The following is an extension for Fireworks MX 2004. Its a puzzle autoshape that creates puzzle pieces for you.
http://www.senocular.com/downloads/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1079843616&ucat=8&kind=8
and this is a PNG of it being used
http://www.senocular.com/downloads/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1079982097&ucat=9&kind=9
and this is a simple extension that helps you easily put an image in puzzle pieces (multiple paste inside command)
http://senocular.com/pub/multipasteinside.fw.mxp
And if you want, you can use one of the commands in the following to export each piece to individual files (export commands - though FW can pretty much do that for you anyway, I tend to use the one in here because its a little faster)
http://www.senocular.com/downloads/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1079375750&ucat=8&kind=8

So, if you choose to take this route, which some people may, and others may not, simply use the puzzle shape to create random puzzle pieces, putting them in their completed puzzle form. Then place the image on (or under) that puzzle and use multiple paste inside to make each puzzle piece a mask for that part of the image and export each as a separate file.

I tried search at download.com and found this one:

It sounds good for creating Puzzle, in some simple click.(Tested, very nice)

I've attached the old file. There are certainly some things I'd change if I were to do it over again but it's not too shabby considering when it was first written.

And just to make you a little envious ;), the attached jigsaw puzzle file later evolved into this handy little component (http://www.pixelwit.com/temp/DynamicPzzle_26.html) which turns any movieClip into a jigsaw puzzle made of randomly shaped pieces (you can tell they're randomly shaped by repeatedly pressing the "Reset" button). And before you ask... Nope, you can't have it. :D
