validating text to certain data type...

I have 3 input text boxes set up and I want to validate that the user is entering the text in the correct format:

box 1 email = xxx@xxxxxxx.xxxx

and so forth. If it's not in the correct form, I want to show that the user that it's wrong. How would I do that???
