I am working on a simple rollover in Flash MX. I am using the drawing tools to make a simple button. I have looked at the tutorials, help files, forums. I cant get it to work properly when i add text to the button.
The rollover works fine when i dont use text on my buttons, however, when i add another layer for text, my rollover does not work any longer. What am i missing?? Seems to only work on the edge of the button once i add text. My hit state is same size as my buttons. Thanks for your help!:)

Howdy... Welcome aboard... :)
I think that has to do with the 'Selectable option' of the text field...
Click on your text once... Do you see the properties panel for the selected text??? Find a littls white square button that says 'Selectable' when you roll over... It is located at the third row from the top, about the middle of that row... I think it has been selected right now... Unselect that button, which will turn that button to be gray... Play the movie again and see if that does the trick...
Let me know... :)

Couldn't he also just make layer's within his button? Put text on one layer, button on another, etc ....... also convert his text to a graphic? if it's within the button?

Thank you CyanBlue!!!
It worked! I deselected the "selectable" button for all states. Works fine now. I only wish this instruction was included in the documentation for rollover buttons. Would have saved me hours(days) of searching.
Anyway, I am very grateful for your help and all the help you give others on this forum. You do a great job! Thank you.

Thank you, wayneM... You are so kind... I just do what I can do while I have time... I didn't know where to look for when I first learn Flash, so I'm just doing what I can do... :o ;)
Yup... It might have saved you a couple of days if that was written on the document... Well... Now you know where to go when you have problem, right??? I believe that will save you at least several month's searching work... :D Whenever you got into trouble, open up the Flash manual and look for what might be similar case... and go to Macromedia's Flash support area and its forum area... and come to ActionScript.org to search what you are looking for... and if you still can't find it, feel free to post... Lots of people here are willing to help others... :)
Where in VA??? I'm in Chantilly, VA...

I do have a book to look up Flash info (Flash-visual quickstart guide). Probably need to purchase another more in depth book on actionScript.
I have another problem under "stop movie but not actionScript? " if you care to try on this one too.
Thanks again for the help. Im in stephens city (winchester area).
