Text parsing in Actionscript

I am looking at the text handlers in Actionscript currently and looking at those in VB for regular expression handling and more general text parsing (say, parsing with simple context free grammars). I am looking a the design of chatterbot and in terms of visuals Flash seems the better choice but I would like some feedback from anyone working with text parsing in Actionscript.
