Howdy...
I've run into this page in case you might want to know what the !@#$ happened to Were-Here... (Maybe old news to others... :D)
I remember Jesse mentioned this a week ago or something, but I wasn't able to find anything about it... Well... I got it now right HERE (http://www.actionscript.com/archives/00000441.html) in case you want... :)

Hopefully soon... But then, I had this 'hopefully soon' thought ever since it went down... :( BTW, I didn't know if they were in the car accident... The last thing I've heard was that they went out on the vacation or something... and I don't know how that gets connected to the car accident... Oh well... I hope they are okay now... :)

Nah dont worry about me leaving :) Just it was such a wealth of info and for it to disappear with no advanced warning was a bit of a shock :) There where times when it was quicker to search on were-here than to use the Flash Manual :)
And no I aint done with the Flash Forums yet but it is getting there. I am re-writing the website in Flash atm to take the same sort of style as the board which can be found at http://www.flashforums.com/forum :)

There where times when it was quicker to search on were-here than to use the Flash Manual Ah... don't I miss those days... Sigh... Besides, there was a guy, Sx, who did a great job not only helping others, but make some sort of list which was REAL useful... Many people wished at least archive THAT information... Wonder where Sx is now...

As for his "Must Read List", I bet this (http://www.flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=415007&pagenumber=1#post2218692) will make you VERY happy :) What do you think, maybe we should offer him a helping hand?
Cheers,

Thanks, DiDi... ;)
WoW... 30 megs of data??? Geez... That was real vast list of threads... How was he able to even get them saved on the drive in that short priod of time??? Man... (I think it will actually take more time to to convert the data to PDF... Why PDF??? I hate PDF files... I wonder how big the PDF will get from 30 megs of data... :() I just hope he could find a place to host that soon...
As long as Sx hosting the data online and giving hime a helping hand, I doubt that AS.org can do anything about it since he just doesn't show up here at all... I don't think he really minds sharing the copies with others though... So, I guess all the online forums will have copy of it somewhere maybe??? ;)
(It sounded like he's got fed up with people emailing him for the backup data... lol... :D)
Haha... That thread was real funny... :D I have never seen him doing that at all... He was more likely telling others not to be too haste... Well... I guess it was his down time... That proves that Sx is not a god after all... :DWith no intention to get into a flame war, but FK forums can't be compared to the WH ones... FK has it's better sides (.flas, tutorials, articles), but FK forums are not even close to the ones on WH...Ah... Don't I miss it??? Great analysis, eh??? :)
Thanks again, sista, for the great information and the laughter... :D
You're welcome bro' :)
I didn't mean AS.org helping, but me, you or anybody else who considers all that info precious help to Flash community...proves that Sx is not a god after allNo he's not, but he's damn close to that whatever-god-like-thing a hard-core atheist like me can imagine... :D

Ah... Yes... yes... One way of helping him would be getting the book he promised, but I don't think that's done yet... I still remember him complaining about his big fat phone bill... :D I hope there are some ways... Let me know if you see anything... (If I have to, I'll sell one of my puppies... :D Well, if I do that, my wife is going to kick me out... :()
Not meaning to offend Sx, but he's more likely the old Egyptian king that was on the Mummy, the movie, when I imagine... He's got the knowledge, talent and the attitude... :D

Hmm I read that's it's goign to have a fully Flash interface. Opinions? I'm personally still not keen on them. I think Ultrashock have done a great job but it'll be hard to replicate.
CyanBlue
03-30-2003, 09:32 AM
Personally... I would stay away from the Flash site if I were the owner and considerate person... I would never thought of things this way if I didn't move, but ever since the move, I am stuck with the 56k... Well... I was still using 28.8k when other people were using 56k because I didn't see much of the speed difference... But after I moved to the broadband, I did see the difference and all my things were really reflecting what I had in my mind... My users are not going to be using dial-ups... Well... Here I am, back to the dial-up... Speed difference is way too much... I can't stand it any longer, but I am out of option...
Well... It just went to side ways... Stay with what you have, Jesse... You've got all the functionalities working as it should be... The reason why I don't go to the UltraShock is/was because of the loading speed wasn't quite good even I was on the cable... I think lots of people might think about the UltraShock that way... People just go there because they don't have no other choice but to go get the right information...
Just my 2 cents and big rant... :D

04-09-2003, 11:46 AM
It's certainly good news for the Flash scene and I'm keen to see what the new site is going to be like. I also really interested in what their content base is going to be like because before all the down time started, as I recall they lost a lot of content during a server crash. I think as long as the Forums are backup up somewhere, it will come back as a great resource, because their Forums were full of great info which could be found with a little searching.
Here's hoping we can keep up with WH and FK, as we're now pretty much the only site not sponsored by a large organization.

Ahaha nice analogy. Basically I just popped in and out of WH when I wanted to search their forums DB; I was never part of the community coz I was busy running this site. In the last 6 months before it went donw, FlashKit was so slow it was totally out of the question to go there, so WH became a regular spot for me to visit. I have like 5 posts total there :)

to be honest although were-here was great i think the org has become my new home. althoug the boards aren't as big i think the overall content is better. as for the others
FK == tooSlow && FK == noContentFilter
US == annoyingFramed
but
FK == coversOtherThings
US == extremleyLargeUserBase && US == aLotOfOtherContent
So it's all horses for courses, swings and roundabouts, etc etc

most importantly, the whole database of past messages is still there! wh was probably the best repository of flash data anywhere, and all that data is still alive.I love this... ;)it's kind of like wandering around a big brand new theme park the week before it opens to the public.Wow... So I don't sound like I'm slagging them off at any point, let it be known that I'm not the sort of person who considers FK, WH etc to be 'competitor sites'. We're all around for the same purpose - to spread the knowledge.
Having said that I can safely say that the popup thing bothers me... lots :)

glad to hear that. there's a lot of WH bashing going on in other forums, childish crap. personally, i visit WH, US, AS.org, even FK pretty much daily, in addition to my own forum and pop in to Kirupa once in a while. i say, the more the merrier.
