View Full Version : Portfolio Site
Hi!,
I just wanted some feedback on my portfolio i'm doing for school:
http://www.elementrik.ca.tc
We were given two weeks to build it and it's due monday, so comments or ideas on animation, colors, type, layout and all that fun stuff would really be helpful.
Thks in advance

hi, maus,
welcome to actionscript.org :)
i feel related to the way you work, i'm all the way for clean design, neat animations, don't-bug-the-user flash sites. and your portfolio has all that. good job.
here's some ideas i had:
1. i have to click twice before i get any content. including typing the url it's three steps before i see what i'm looking for.
you could cut it down to two by presenting a nice graphic on the opening page in the yellow pane, with some of your best work to smash the user when he gets in, or to present yourself personally, something nice that would make people think "this is a cool/funny/serious guy", whatever you want 'em to think :)
you could also cut it down to just typing the url by using a plugin check, and drop the popUp window?
then it's "1. type url, 2. here's your content" and that's good.
2. make the e-mail adress clickable on the contact page, or include a form
3. make two more animations so the transition is a little different for every page? shouldn't be too heavy..
and take a sunday tomorrow, you'll get an A+ for this anyway :)
let us know what they think of it, will ya?

i agree with tost....i would reccomend putting some sort of graphic on the front page to get the user interested. Maybe a cool illustration you did or something.
Also...a rollover status on your main navigation would help user feedback which is a good thing.
I would also reccomend when going to the portfolio section...possibly you could present your latest project...or a featured project first instead of leaving a blank page. Always try to pull the user in, and not make them have to work to see your stuff. Pull them into your portfolio.'
Just some thoughts...very nice design and i really like your little guy in the upper right hand corner. ;)
Wow, Thanks for the quick replys, :)
Your suggesstions are really appreciated!
I just wanted to add that I'm hoping to eventually add a html site and that is why I went with the pop up window
for flash.
But I really think That the front page (yellow pane) needs something. I'm just not sure what yet. I'm adding my content today so i'll see what fits best. And I think the whole thing needs some tweaking. At least now I know what stands out.
I'll hopefully be done by monday so you could see the finished results.
Oh and tost, I took a look at your site. Wow! cool flash and I really like your work! The cunni ad made almost made me spill my coffee :) A+
tnx man
'the cunni ad' was designed by one of my partners, joé. it's not an ad but actual lingerie designs, these slips are made and wearable :D

Your site site is HOT man, I really dig it. The only thing is your 3-d button in the portfolio section doesn't work. Your Bio is more like a profile/resume.
Thx for the reply conduct :) I'm happy you like it!
I should probably put something on the 3D button to say that the section isn't up yet.
And the bio page will be updated soon too, I plan on writing up something more personalized.
I was supposed to do all this work this weekend but we had such beautiful weather that I couldn't stay indoors.

first of all put the swf into an html file
nice job but i would:
give back the same color as used in menu
change the mask when opening a new menu

yeah i really like your site man, its reall clean and smooth. How did you get that transition effect between pages, where the disjointed edges move across the screen?
it looks like it could be a simple thing to do, but im new to flash, or its hard and you've made it look simple.
thanks
Hi,
Sorry i didn't reply sooner, we started after effects in school this week and I am consumed by it :)
Thanks for the suggestions ox, and godonholiday, All I did was use 4 rectangles, keep them as shapes (don't convert them into symbols) line them up,
give yourself about thirty frames. Then shape tween.
I'll try to attach an fla so you get a better idea.

I love it!
really really like the logo!
only on the splash page the img (think for the flashplugin) won't load with me.
it's the one next to the quiktimelogo
friendly greetings
