if I were to create a projector with director 8 on a windows NT; will it still work with the new windows OS ( 2000, XP)?

Yes... As long as you have properly packaged the Xtras that you have used... I can't think of any other reason why it shouldn't work on higher machine... As a matter of fact, I remember running a projector that I have made long long time ago with Director 6 with no problem on Windows 2000 machine...
