héhé, opera is not my thing, but I'm all into classical this last week... especially that soundtrack from requiem for a dream... (must have mentioned that one like 500 times allready).
found a version that was used for lotr called
lux aeterna by clint mansell or kronos quartet...
gotta love it, the way the tension builds up...
put that song on when doing some sort of contest and it'll push you over the line...

That song is incredible (the movies not bad too :))
Today i've been listening to mwng (http://www.mwng.co.uk) by the super furry animals, i've really been enjoying it. it's all in welsh but they have a website for it that contains translations to englsh for the songs. Gwreiddiau Dwfn/Mawrth Oer Ar Y Blaned Neifion (http://www.mwng.co.uk/mwnglyrics10.htm) is such a beautiful tune, in translation it turns out to be quite bleak though :)

Hehe, no :) At least only what i've learnt from listening to bands who sometimes sing in welsh, for example Super Furry Animals, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, both of whom are excellent :)
Iechyd Da! ;)
linckx
04-29-2003, 08:33 PM
for a second there I thought you said gorki :)
belgian group, I'd show you ,but you won't understand cause it's dutch...
the singer had an 'english adventure' called Automatic buffalo, perhaps you can find something there :)

I found a site about them, I thought for a second they were going to be playing in London, but then I read closer and saw it was just that their support act was called "Camden" :)
linckx
04-29-2003, 09:08 PM
camden rock btw...
the bass player and singer Axl Peleman is a great guy!
so is luc de vos, that singer of gorki
they're both nice and special 'cause they're not into the fame-thing, they stay grounded 100% without it being forced.

to go way to the beginning again:
the new song of evanescence: bring me to life.
gotta love it, they're like a well balanced softer version of linkin park... but with a singer that has a very nice voice.
would love to hear her do something with the guy from staind...

not wanting to break the trend. I'm listening to Courtesy Of Choice by Leila. She used to be Bjork's keyboard player and then went solo (well with some friends to guest on vocals for some tracks)

Lyrics to Gone With the Sin by Him
I love your skin, oh so white
I love your touch cold as ice
and I love every single tear you cry
I just love the way you're losing your life
Oh, my baby how beautiful you are
oh, my darling completely torn apart
You're gone with the sin my baby
and beautiful you are
so, gone with the sin
I adore the despare in your eyes
I worship your lips once red as wine
and I crave for your scent sending shivers down my spine
I just love the way you're running out of life

héhé party is cool...
went out for a little drink with my boss because we were both freaking tired. It was 5 untill we got back in... (I hear you thinking... five must be do-able). It's not.
I am reading things that aren't there. Luckily I only have one hour to go right now... But I'm soo sure I'm going to fall asleep on the train.
Luckily my honey got her drivers licence and she's going to come and pick me up at the station. If that can't keep me awake? :D
robin
btw: I really think eminem needs to get his face out of attention a little now. He's the best, he's a phenomenon. But he is wearing out a little here, way to much airplay. Even great music can't survive that.
boyzdynasty
05-23-2003, 01:38 PM
yea....true.
O...about parties.... *sigh*
I'm so freakin' tired.
It's about 8:30am here....
Yesterday, I had lots of freinds/classmates graduated and I had to go to 2 diff. graduations.
(Within the University there are colleges.....each college represent an area of study)
Anyways, I went to the Fox School of Business graduation and that was nice...but my butt was numb.
*It was so long*
The graduates ended up blowing up a beach ball and starting bouncing it around while the Prof(s) were speaking.
The speeches were boring but I found the beach ball hoax and bubble blowing were funny.
Then....I went to "The College of Science Technology" - CIS,Bio,Chem,...etc...majors were graduating.
I had lots of friends from the CIS area graduated.
This one Professor made a 20-30 mins. speech about *blah blah blah*
He was horrible.
eRRRr
My friends told me to apply for the Student Speaker position next May (that is when I will be graduating).....
I'm considering it and I'll make sure my speeches are entertaining.
Anyway...i had a point to this story....
*hmm....o...yea*
Well there were madd graduation parties to attend to *sigh*
I am madd tired. but I had fun.
And tonight will be another one, but it will be sucky for me b/c I am driving (so...no drinking for me)

DO THAT SPEECH BOYZ!!
I did ours (only secondary school however) for like 700 people, was shaking like hell... But if you want to experience the feeling of 'lose yourself' 's first paragraph... well... can't get any closer than that.
And it's really great, you'll get a shipload of respect and everybody will be friendly (of the profs...) so if you need help afterwards, they'll be happy to give it to you.

yup yup...bz...bz...
All weekend I was celebrating memorials day and graduation....hehe
I got to see Russell Watson perform at the memorial day concert in D.C. (from the t.v.)
Actually, I recorded it b/c I was at the casinos w/ my friends.
I actually won $50. I had won over $100 but I was being greedy
And I ended up w/ $50 winnings left...and so I stopped.
I will definitely consider doing it but the criteria of the speaker....welll.....might be a problem.
The student speaker had GPA of 3.92 out of 4.0 *wow* ....and she had a lot of awards/scholarship recognition.
I have only a 3.4 gpa....hopefully, I'll get a 3.5 by the time I graduate.
The GPA requirement for a student speaker is 3.3 but I'm sure they look at other stuff too.
I think I am fine w/ performing in front of people.
Kinda have some experience in that department :D

linckx
05-27-2003, 06:11 PM
don't think they're sixteen...
they are lesbians though, and went to eurovision song festival for russia, where they made a big fuss:
One of the singer's voice was really bad, but she was obligated to keep on singing, and had to go to the hospital with voice-problems. So they asked a third girl.
But the real big fuss was: their manager wanted them to kiss on stage... but the direction of ESF didn't want them too... for what I've heard they didn't, but I didn't watch.
check some of the songs out and weep (and understand why I don't watch ;))

they are not lesbians!
Basically, their band manager is a psychologist and he wanted them to make an impression. Being a psychologist - he knew that it would cause a stir for people to kiss live on tv.
And, they are good friends who have grown up together, and it is not uncommon for girls to kiss other girls and not be lesbians

I'm telling you, that whole thing would so much more fair if they'd keep the scandinavian countrys out of it... they vote for eachother... everytime...

well...
she couldn't quite forget the guy she really really loved (2 years ago allready) and the first month we got to know eachother and first two weeks we were together she liked me like she liked him...
And then she started comparing me with him... and when I got the hang of that... I had something like: hey, I'm robin and not ------ . and because I didn't feel 100% anymore I must have given wrong impulses... and it went wrong when she got real mad at someone and I tried to calm her down, and she exploded against me...
so I gently walked away... and that evening we went to a party and I took her apart, and just when I wanted to tell her I didn't wanna continue anymore, she told me the same... so we stopped.
but we're still good friends and all of our common friends take it really well.
so it's not that big loss... I'm actually happy I got to feel soooo in love again, and see it not harm everything I've got like the last time I had that feeling...

ok all, this is the festival news. I went to download on the weekend, and saw lots of bands including evanescence.
Line up and who I saw:
Saturday: (seemed to have spent all day faffing around getting passes etc, and looking at clothes)
IRON MAIDEN - saw the end of - didnt do it for me, old rockers
A - cool, was a bit violent in mosh pit
MARILYN MANSON - apparently had naked dancers, saw about 10 minutes, very weird
REEL BIG FISH - somehow missed half of this, but really cool
DEFTONES watched them while on the grass drinking beer
INME - heard them from tent, as boyf had passed out in the sun
HIM - rocked - and he took his top off, very nice
SUNDAY: (and saw some other bands but dont know who they were)
FLINT - no comment
DISTURBED - they were quite good
SPUNGE - saw a little of it, heard all of it, they were cool
EVANESCENCE - not too in tune, but only band I really wanted to see
ONE MINUTE SILENCE - these were good too even though not really my scene.
and we missed metallica on their set, but they did a kinda oncore on the main stage, which we saw, and took us a while to work out who they were.
Got very sunburnt too, but was good fun
linckx
06-05-2003, 10:40 AM
are you telling me you missed metallica?
...
bluegel
06-05-2003, 11:51 AM
yeah, well we didnt realise it was them. and then we found out later it was them, and so yeah, we missed them

there were rumours that they were playing, then the rumours were denyed. even the download team denyed they would be playing, then they played instead of Apocalytica (or whatever they are called)
linckx
06-05-2003, 11:55 AM
are you sure it wasn't apocalyptica? 'cause they're absolutely great... four guys with cello's playing own songs and metallica covers...
they're both great bands!
I've seen apocalyptica, and in three weeks I'll finally be able to say I've seen metallica...
wouldn't miss it for the world...
robin
bluegel

no, it was definately metallica.
they were doing it on the cellos just like apocalyptica, but it was definately metallica. apparently it was packed out. there's a review on the site

You guys are so funny.
I had never been to a festival b4. Maybe when I'm around your area during those festival seasons....you guys can take me out.
As for work....
So far so good. I am not gonna do any programming. Kinda disappointed about that, but it's cool. My summer classes are killing me anyway.
I missed this place and I missed a lot. :(
I'll try to drop by once and awhile.
bluegel
06-07-2003, 11:21 AM
yeh, agree with you on taking you to a festval, you are missing out.
shame to hear that you are so busy, do try and pop by, it'll be lonely here without you :(
boyzdynasty
06-07-2003, 01:40 PM
i'm glad some people still remember me here :D
feeling down lately. I said before that I like to keep busy but I think it is really taking its toll on me.
*Listening to some music ....very relaxing*
Working during the day and going to school at night....*sigh*...it's exhausting.
I find myself falling asleep on my couch with my working clothes on after coming from class.
Then I wake up and realize it is time to go to work....*again*
Today (Saturday) it will be raining all day. I figured I stay in, blast the music up and..... relax? Nope ....gotta do some homework.
Yesterday, the team took me and the other intern out for lunch. Only 12 people could make it, but it was fun. I got a chance to meet Chuck, who is in the UNIX group. I probably go visit him more often at work because I want to get to know or involve in what he does. He writes up UNIX scripts ....basically....he does programming. And that is what I want to do.
The work that me and the other intern are getting does not involve any programming at all. :(
--------------
Linckx, I'm glad that things had worked out.
My Ex and I been hangin' out together lately....(dinner, shopping, movie,....)
I guess I still have some feelings for her but not sure how she actually feels about me. But it looks like I'm becoming one of those guys that girls consider as a "best friend"....
If I get a lot of work done today, I guess I'll call her to go out tonight and talk.
--------------
p.s.
I will look forward to a future festival.
hmm....maybe that should be as.org first meeting activity/destination!!

I'd love to take you guys to some festivals, but the really great ones are allready sold out or passed this year...
maybe next year ;)
but make sure you drop by once in a while, or I might forget about you...
nah, I couldn't, you're the guy who got me to know evanescence ;)

My favorite bands
Radiohead & The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Man these guys evanescence blew up didn't they. Don't get me wrong I like the song and everything but they're not the next Zepplin. They played here in Cleveland, OH a few weeks ago for $6 a ticket.
Also Under the Bridge, this generations Stairway? Anyone agree?

under the bridge of rhcp
and stairway to heaven from led zeppelin :D
the song of this generation in my opinion must be
smells like teen spirit, wether you like it or not...
others include
under the bridge (rhcp)
nothing else matters (metallica)
open your eyes (guano apes)
bro hymn tribute (pennywise)
but that's just my humble opinion...

BlueGel, sometimes you have a hard time keeping up. Let me elaborate:
My parents (hippies) listened to all the great rock of their era (generation), I come in to this world in '78 and grow up listening to all the great music of the 60's & 70's. Late 80's early 90's VitiminJ starts listening to RHCP. Under the Bridge comes along and has an impact so huge that even to this day, some 10+ years later that if you were flipping thru stations on the radio and you heard a note of UTB you know in an instant what song it was and what the next word was going to be. Some may even compare this to another great song Stairway to Heaven. Which brings me to my original question and statement, I think UTB is the STH of our / my generation. Does anyone agree? Generations in this context refers to music and what we listen opposed to what our parents listened to. Another generation of music is the one we are currently in the teen rock band era. So I hope this clears things up for you. Also don't take this the wrong way I know there are many barriers between us being from different countries and all so if I sound like a jerk I don't mean to. And Robin you are correct that is basically what I was asking. :)
linckx
06-10-2003, 01:31 PM
well, I think so :D
you know what's funny? 'tribute to the best song in the world' from tenacious D, has a version where STH is mixed into, like saying... well... this is the one :D
but of course there's heavy concurrention from sultans of swing and bohemian rhapsody...

he's got 5000 dollars and wants to buy really expensive guitar!

you know german rock im park (http://www.rock-im-park.com)?
linckx
06-10-2003, 01:54 PM
ticket was 108 euros ...
plus 14 for camping (4 days)
and you must count that being there, eating and drinking will again cost me 125 euros...
on the other hand, go see metallica, moby, rem and colplay separately and you spend more than 122 euro's on entrance...
I'm a festival-addict so I don't mind paying big money, as long as they give me big shows...
last year we had RHCP, rammstein, and many other big bands...
but this edition overclasses all it's predecessors...

See that crap happens in the states but they don't buy you a beer to make up for it.
108 euros thats freaking cheap for all those bands. When Radiohead comes to my town the tickets will probably be around $50 (US Dollars) which is 46 euros. My point you get to see all those bands for a little more then double that. Thanks freaky great. If that same venu came to the states they would charge $300 a ticket easily.
McGiver
06-10-2003, 02:32 PM

i think the fact, that you've got much stronger laws in regard of alcohol makes concersts less funny
what laws?
every year there are several people who need to be evacuated with an alcohol-poisoning...
and 60 percent of the people is smoking weed there...
no-one gives a damn...
there are no brakes... but belgian people luckily are 'free' all the time so they don't need to go do too crazy stuff...

in most states you need to be 21 to consume alc!
in germany or belgium there's no problem about it!

yup, but then again,
people in the states get to drive cars when they're 16...
that we don't have, you must be 17 and 9 months...
but alcohol is a good thing when used in a decent way...
still searching that way ;)
robin
McGiver
06-10-2003, 02:45 PM
well the driving license is definitely an advance, but the prohebition for all younger than 21 is something ideotic!
linckx
06-10-2003, 02:51 PM
certainly when you compare the fact that they at 21 hardly can stand alcohol, but have been driving for over 4 years than makes them in my eyes so vulnerable for drunk driving...
if you see here, kids of 16 know the dangers of drinking, and start driving afterwards, it's a much bigger step to stupidity...
what I do like is that no-smoking thing in every café... that I love!
