I'd say Paolo Conte,
Apocalyptica (the slow work then)
And the whole soundtrack of LOTR II

anyway, look at epic soundtracks like 'titanic', braveheart, etc...

there's always a bunch of great music in 'em!

On topic with this thread, the new Evanescence song is, you guessed it, My Immortal. its a great vid. Its probably somewhere on the web. Launch (launch.yahoo.com) possibly.

I have a new CD. Thrice (band) The Artist in the Ambulance (CD). Its great. Guitars killer. They're more punk than metal, but I love it. Also some interesting background music, including a orchestra. Highly recommended.

EDIT: not on launch yet (november 11) maybe it will be on later.

if you are downloading and like your music hard and heavy, try downloading "joyful reunion" by NoMeansNo..it rocks in fact many of their songs rock , they are like white man blues with a heavy punk feel...top band

Dream Theater has a new record out, just yesterday. Anyone who likes progressive metal should definitly pick this one up.

Cerys Matthews (http://www.cerysmatthews.info/)' (she used to be the singer in catatonia) cockahoop album is really beautiful, in particular the welsh language track arglwydd dyma fi and the single caught in the middle.

I met her once years ago when she was in catatonia, before they got famous. she seemed rude, although she also appeared to be very drunk at the time (which might explain it), but with a voice like that I can't help but forgive her *sigh* :)

Ok, I'll throw in something new. What about "the White Stripes", there kinda refreshing somehow.

Don't know if there were mentioned before btw (and I'm certainly NOT going to check back for that).

Ahoy,

CyanBlue, I would post my playlist now, but iTunes for Windows, or Mac for that matter, doesn't seem to want to export just the song and band info. Piss off... I'll install Winamp again I guess.... :(

I have a question about Winamp. When you first open it, it needs to refresh the song list. So at first when you open the playlist, it shows the name of the file, and then replaces that with the Song name- band name. Is there a way to force Winamp to remember the songs?

BTW: Attached is my current library in iTunes, even though its generated in Winamp.... if I could get my damn FTP working, I would've uploaded the .html file. Oh well, I'll try again later.

@ colin: wow, quite a lot of dream theater and inflames.

I don't think the beatles are overraed. they have had a lot of cool songs (they only had a few bad songs).
they had a lot more songs then yello submarine (one of their worst songs i think)

Colin Campbell
11-14-2003, 01:05 PM
Yeah, i don't like dream theater that much anymore though. They've gone really progressive metal of late... I don't like that much. If you like the 80s style metal, get "Images and Words" or "Scenes from a Memory" from them, simply amazing.

I have 92 In Flames songs, from the CDs:

Clayman
Colony
Whoracle
Lunar Strain
Reroute to Remain
The Jester Race
The Tokyo Showdown (live)

This band is simply amazing. Every single song is so good.

the beatles aren't overrated at all in my opinion:

The song 'come together' features a lot of stuff that's been used later on,
and please search for soundgarden's version of it, it rocks big time!

stimpson, welcome to the club of addicts ;)
colin, you don't really know all of those dream theater songs by heart do you? Ah well, I've got some like 4 cd's k's choice too I know from first word till last (breathing moments included :))
cyanblue: do you know some great jazz stuff? the only ones I know are John Coltrane and Miles Davis...

"colin, you don't really know all of those dream theater songs by heart do you? "

nope, not at all. I only listen to the ones I like, and occasionally the songs I don't like. I only know the words to all the Linkin Park songs... cuz I used to listen to the "Meteora" CD at least 3 times a day, if not more, and I know the words to most of the songs from In Flames' CDs: Clayman and Colony. Of course, its kinda hard to tell what he's saying sometimes, because he likes to do this screaming/talking thing.

What about Radiohead? Most people don't like their new stuff, to strange, but I absolutely love it. Music can't be strange enough for me, ever heard Aphex Twin:p

But hey I also like Elvis Presley (it's true, I can't help it. And I'm not even that old!), Kruder & Dorfmeister and Carl Cox (sounds like some porn Acter don't you think ;)). Talking about a broad musical interest eh.

stacy's mom is great :)

I've been downloading some drum & bass and goatrance, and the strangest thing happened the other day: `

The average 'robin-in-the-morning-do-not-disturb-ritual' : I put on my music and annoy everyone else in the house. Now that day I put on my new drum & bass stuff and some goatrance.

My mom busts in my room with the average 'I-know-you-don't-wanna-be-disturbed-but-I-don't-care-cause-you're-driving-us-all-nuts-ritual' but instead of pushing my stereo's power button she switches the volume knob from pretty loud to very loud!!

I've got a mom who loves goa! :D:D

I went to Antwerp is burning with friends, thinking it would suck, but heck it was great!!

Only one if not the greatest Swedish death metal band ever! ;) Sweden is home to death metal, thats for sure. It depends on what you're looking for though, the band has changed much over the years. If you like more tradional death metal, get a song from "The Jester Race" or "Whoracle." If you like Melodic Death metal, get a song from "Clayman"(argueably the best death metal CD ever created) or "Colony"(my favourite).

I'm not a big beer fan so I had two glasses of apple martini.
One shot of rum *I think*...it was rum...not sure what my friend ordered for me.

And boy was I ready to dance :D
The DJ kept playing all rave/techno music. It was nice and all...but after a few hrs. my head started pounding.
Then...a new DJ came on and started Hip-Hopin' *hehe...and I was back in a groove!

hehe it is simply stunning,

Nimoy does some wierd spock songs and some truly memorable classics like 'abraham martin and john' 'i walk the line' 'gentle on my mind' and other country style classics

Shatner however must be heard to be believed, his "songs" range from.....
reciting shakespeare to music, to 'lucy in the sky with diamonds' (which is a killer guarenteed to make anyone laugh) and all in his own inimitable style.

If you want a laugh get the album it is full of classics

Thats almost uncanny, thats EXACTLY how he recites it (minus the scotty bit:))

Although lucy in the sky with diamonds is the best ever shatner track, he does his "manic old star trek mind controlled man on the edge" voice ...its is superb

the 'slowness' in the movie is breathtaking! such perfect timing, with such respect for every aspect of the story!

It has ALL right to title with ' the 4th quentin tarantino film'

I'm in love with this movie, and certainly that soundtrack!!

Steve Buscemi also directed one of the greatest pieces of television ever (at least I liked it :)) the episode of the sopranos I think from season 3 where Paulie and Christopher get lost in the woods in the middle of winter after going out there to dump a body.

Quentin Tarantino was the dealer in pulp fiction right? If I'm not mistaken at least.

Alright people, I'm trying to broaden the amount and genre's of my music library. I want rap/techno/hiphop/ambient/<insert more genres here> artists. Suggestions?

Stimpson
11-26-2003, 06:38 PM
Hmmmm,

Well how about Cypress Hill for rap. Not a partical big fan of rap, but there pretty good.

Sven Vath, Dave Clarke or Carl Cox for techno. There really awsome.

Hiphop, hmmmm never really could make the distiction between rap and hiphop ;)

Kruder & Dorfmeister (! really good), st Germain, Royksopp, Jazzanova for ambient/ lounge purposes.

Ehhhh

For acid(like) stuff :D Aphex Twin, Mr oizo and squarepusher.
60's stuff, Jimi Hendrix, The doors, Janis Joplin (Beatles even).

Ah well.

catbert303
11-26-2003, 07:21 PM
hip hop/rap type stuff (kinda) - outkast
quannum
dj shadow (especially the endtroducing album which is truely epic)
jurassic 5

electronica/trip hop/whatever from more ambient chilled stuff though to harder stuff...

portishead (and beth gibbons solo stuff)
stereolab
boards of canada
broadcast
four tet
leila
bogdan raczynski (the samurai math beats LP is worth checking out if you can find it, big beats and crazy pitched up vocals, a very smiley record :))
klute (the casual bodies LP is very good drum and bass stuff)
the aphex twin*
squarepusher*
kid 606

*as already mentioned, but woth mentioning again :)

Thanks alot catbert, much appreciated.

I have another band to recommend for those rock fans out there. Some of them are ex-Tool members, and the vocalist is an ex-nine inch nails member, I believe. The bands name is Fuel, and they make great music. Its rock/alternative, with a wicked guitar. Listen to "Quarter" great tune.

Not a new movie or anything, 2001 I think, and with Ben Kingsley. It's sortof a Snatch/Resevoir Dogs hybrid. I recconmend it :)

I just bought "as heard on radio soulwax pt.2" by 2 many dj's which I think is a side project of the band soulwax, it's DJ mix album. It's not the type of thing I wouldn't usually buy, but it's probably the greatest party record i've ever heard. in the space of about 5 minutes they mix, the a capella version of indepedent woman by destiny's child with 10cc's dreadlock holiday then into 9 to 5 by dolly parton and eple by royksopp. :D

or, box car racer, which i have already said before, but these are the lyrics to the song:

Box Car Racer
There Is Lyrics

this vacation's useless
these white pills aren't kind
i've given a lot of thought on this 13-hour drive
i missed the grinding concrete where we sat past 8 or 9
and slowly finished laughing in the glow of our headlights
i've given a lot of thought to the nights we use to have
the days have come and gone
our lives when but so fast
i faintly remember breathing on your bedroom floor
where i laid and told you but you sweared you loved me more

do you care if i don't know what to say
will you sleep tonight or will you think of me
will i shake this off pretend its all okay
that there someone out there who feels just like me
there is

those notes you wrote me
i've kept them all
i'll give a lot of thought of how to write you back this fall
with every single letter in every single word there
will be a hidden message about a boy that's
loves a girl
do you care if i don't know what to say
will you sleep tonight or will you think of me
will i shake this off
pretend its all okay that there's someone out there
who feels just like me
there is

do you care if i don't know what to say?
will you sleep tonight or will you think of me
will i shake this off

Lryics wise (and musically really) the album
"The wall" by 'Pink floyd' is one of the best albums ever written, it is a work of art
At least in my opinion, obviously others may disagree but if you havent heard it before and like alternative type music i think you will be pleasently surpised.

I'll lend you mine, as long as you make sure to get boyz nice and clean, I don't want any blood on my windshield.

not anymore... :s
I've got the choice between three cars (but none of them to have, just to use),
a bmw 320d (that thing is going to kill me some day), a citroen berlingo (love it!) and a smart (first version, don't trust it)

is that yours skinner?
robin

McGiver
01-07-2004, 10:39 AM
I'd love a smart :)
ok, maybe it sucks that you can take only one person with you.

I drive a silver VW Golf 3 like this one
Very nice car because it's one of the few cars a tall person (189cm not really huge, but still tall enough to sit unconfortable in some cars) has much space.

linckx
01-19-2004, 10:17 AM
I'm finally starting to like that smart... but it's more like a videogame than a car...
the hassle you need to go through to get the damn thing in return... and then back to forward...
and when you let the steering wheel slide through your fingers when turning... it doesn't slide!! almost got me underneath a parked truck...
and the most fun of all (once you know it it really is, but the first time it scares the hell out of you...) is that when you release your foot from the throttle the thing keeps driving the same speed for over 50 meters before even considering slowing down...

so I want that goddamn citroen berlingo! or a 4 personcar!

i really like s-club 7, all the girls look fantastic, like the singer girl (jo?) with the blonde hair the best :D

do you like their music or only the songs the blonde sings in? :)

i really like 3 of their songs, good catchy pop tunes.
and the girls help as well :)
they had a tv show called s club 7 too which was really really cheesey and full of bad acting :)

Stimpson
01-22-2004, 08:40 AM
Hmmm.....s club 7, rings a bell somehow.

Just heard some new cd, well not all that brand new I think. But if you want to hear some really really weird music, but in a very very good way ;), check out the 'Empty the Bones of you' album from Chris Clark. Truly amazing, sortof like Aphex twin and Authechre, but better :).

My new band: not so new bands, I've gone back to loving Linkin Park and Audioslave. :)

I normally listen to a bunch of different music, but I can't seem to listen to anything with lyrics while I'm working. If I do then I get distracted by the song and don't get any work done.:( So I just listen to http://www.bassdrive.com/BassDrive.m3u

SClub7 ;) I've seen that show - I didn't realize they were a real band, though.

yeah they were quite big with the younger audience in england & 1 of the girls has become a sex symbol (rachel stevens) so that helped group popularity too

It had been a long time since I saw my sister watching the show - I didn't realize they would be old enough to be sex symbols. Turns out she is a year older then me.

And I did a little google search - Rachel Stevens Pictures  it all makes sense now. :D

yeah, they first made it big just as my hormones exploded so i liked the way they looked right from the start.
was a little saddened when they broke up, only rachel has a solo career, the other girls should have 1's to, especially the girl that did most of the singing, i like her best :p

the reason for postcloning... old mac, slow server, no patience... double clicking and apple-quitting...
