just trying to balance work and fun time ... so little time.

This past weekend I went to a concert (Maroon 5 and John Mayer).
I had the opportunity to meet Maroon 5. That was awesome.
When the band emails me the pix we took together, I'll post it up.
:)

BTW: I'm not a big fan of John Mayer, but he was good "Live". Very good guitarist as well. Also, he made these wierd organism faces when he performed. I thought he was gonna cum or something....

Work is cool. I like the team I'm in and the work I do. Just that it is a lot...plus, I have classes to take (sucky part).

And I have been going out a lot...I think I need to tone it down a bit. Been going out too much lately. Even on weekdays.

Sucks that I'm missing out on a lot of stuff here....and I have not work with FLASH for quite sometime. :(

BTW: Did you all know that "dork" means "a whale's penis"? I guess I better stop calling people that....well...unless it's a reasonable size ;)

I love this song...

Cortez the Killer (live) - Dave Matthews Band

Baught the Central Park Concert CD right before I left to move (which is nearly done now, just a few things left to unpack), and its great.

Haven't seen you in a while, Colin... Where have you been??? Had too much fun at the Kirupa, so you totally forgot about us??? :D

Colin Campbell
08-22-2004, 01:52 AM
No no no.

Moving sucks. :( Last week before I moved (last week of July) I spent most of the week working in the day, and then at friends houses at night. Didn't get the internet hooked up until the 16th out here or so here, and I've been too busy getting things organized to be posting. I'll be back as a regular sometime... probably once school resumes on the 7th of September.

CyanBlue
08-22-2004, 02:56 AM
I was just teasing you, of course... :)

So, is moving stuff finally over and you guys settled down alright???

Colin Campbell
08-22-2004, 06:17 AM
I don't really see us settling down, ever. With 6 people in my family, we're talking tons of stuff. Oh well, I'm sure things will pick up.

Oh, and I just popped an eyeball looking at some of my site's renders, I really like how they're coming out (one frame is taking 5 minutes, OUCH. If I render them at 30 FPS, thats 2.5 hours rendering time for every second of 3D :o ) . I'm pretty determined to FINALLY finish my personal site, I feel I have a solid design idea for the first time in months, and there should be too much Flash work, which is where past personal sites have died in the water. Oh, and by the way, I've decided to make the domain www.iamcolin.com, if you remember about a year back I was going to register that and had my status as iamcolin is coming :) Looks like it actually might

CyanBlue
08-22-2004, 05:17 PM
Hehe... Hopefully you guys settle down with no problem... :)

That domain name is available??? That sounds like really good one, and it is not taken... WoW... That's great... :) Anyways... Get some work done as soon as you feel like you have time to go over and show us what you've got... :)

linckx
08-23-2004, 02:44 PM
yeah! Like the domainname Colin! Good luck with the settlement!

My girlfriend doesn't think I'm a good student and she could be right... I went to pukkelpop on Wednesday, had Thursday, and fridaymorning I left for an exam, coming back to pukkelpop only two hours after... During a summer festival...
I actually think I did well!

I was impressed by 'the white stripes'... they cover Jolene by Dolly Parton, but live it sounded so much better than the versions I found on the internet...
50 Cent sucked... Well, actually he didn't, the rest of G Unit did... They were shouting 'put your hands up' every (EVERY) moment during songs, every (EVERY) song ended with a gunblast... and then the 'namecalling'... Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Biggie, 2Pac, Missy Elliot, Dr Dre... he named em all...

The only good thing was he didn't say anything on Bush... He must have been the first american artist in belgium this year to not have given a political statement. For that I pay REsPAct! (with crossed arms, and fingers in wrong places while doing a breakdancemove) :D

I'm really into 平井堅 ー瞳をとじて at the moment. (Hirai Ken - hitomi (I think) wo tojite)

....

These days it's more about fun than work for me. :D

And speaking of websites...I better get cracking on one for myself soon.

Colin, can't wait to see what you come up with.

Literally it means "close the pupil" ... so it would probably mean something like "close your eyes" or "don't look" or something similar. I don't know, I just like the melody (and probably only because I've heard it a 1000 times in the past few months)

I saw American Pie 2 the other day (yes, again. And no, still not any better, but sometimes you're a bit bored) and saw the video clip from 3 doors down ... what a weird way to discover you really like the 'sound' of a certain band.

Colin Campbell

bluegel, back to school?! That's great. I already miss school. I was on campus a few weeks ago...man oh man...do I miss college life (minus the assignments and exams)!

Life is crazy ...but I'm trying to have as much fun as I can. I don't want to go crazy because of work.

Every weekend I am doing something now....as long as I have the energy to do it :)

Ricod, still in Japan? I'm planning a trip sometime late Spring of 2005. Still deciding on China or Japan, though.

I want to go to Japan but my friends can't decide where to go. Anyway, I hope it will be a uniamous *spelling* vote for Japan. I'm already shopping around for a book to learn some phrases/sentences.

I made it to the second year, my reexaminations where superb!
I went to sweden with my girlfriend: that was just awesome, backpacking and wildcamping all the way (before you turn me in to local authorities, don't bother, it's legal over there)

the killers where great at pukkelpop!
I like 3 doors down and I'm not afraid to say it.

:ruben:
here's a genre break-down -- if you don't like any of the genres, you're excused, but if you do then you should probably listen to the corresponding album : )

in order:
hiphop
hiphop
idm/glitch
classical anime soundtrack
idm/glitch
idm/glitch
classical contemporary
jazz
hiphop
left-field house (extremely odd, too.)
hard indie rock (japanese)
glitch-hop
funk (remixed)
hard indie rock (american)
electronic pop-hop
progressive soundscape rock

I might have made up some genre-names there, but all of those come well recommended in their respective genres : b

it's not new music, it's at least 3 years old, because it was my 'bad day' music when I was still at school... anyway, in high school, now I'm in an educational facility some people like to call college...

I don't often listen to new music in that style anymore, but it feels good to hear things I used to listen to back then...

Erm, I think Weisses Fleisch is the one where the keyboard-guy does this really weird dance...Buck dich is the one where the vocalist has this fake-d!ck tied in front, and then all of a sudden there's this huge spurt of water coming out of it, soaking the audience completely, I laughed my ass off when I saw it for the first time...you should really see it sometime

General Electric is a french band, making weird electro/rock/jazz music.
Really weird but REALLY GOOD.
Stange is the way I choose this cd.

A friend of mine and I were going to city center to buy inline roller, but it was to late and the shop was closed.
Hmmm...
But our need to buy something was here... lol
So we went to a cd shop like a virgin, and start looking for stuff we like.
Nothing really good in fact. Nothing we really want too.
Disapointed and at the start to go, we just had the idea to take an independant label randomly. I took one. It was this one. Looking at the cover I saw a really well design cover, but not in the aim to CATCH people attention. I mean when I'm seeing too much design cover, I don't pay attention of them, cause i'm thinking:
this cover is too much, so the cd will be bad. :)
But when I'm seeing a well design cover with no intention to SELL, I buy the cd, cause I know that what's on the cd don't need any well done cover...
Anyway. I was true.

A really good band... :)

(the friend I was with, took something not really good. Mouhahahaha)

It's a funny name for a band, but they are quite good with a lot of melody and very funny lyrics. Loved them in high school, then hadn't much listened to them for over a decade. Then saw two of their records together on eBay, "Bucky Felini and Eat Your Paisely" and couldn't resist. So, been rocking that again, as it brings back some memories. Gotta love the vinyl as well. A belgian rap-band who I like are ABN, but only in the song 'ex-liefdadigheid'. it's a work of lyrical art!

Do you know 't hof van commerce'? They rap in West Vlaams (a dialect that most dutch speaking people hardly understand, but very funny).

My vote for favorite singer would have to go to the under rated Johnny Hartamn, a "crooner" in the '60's. The BEST album ever (and gareenteed to get ya some lovin) is called Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane. They don't make um like that any more. Ahhhh......

new album? There only album is Hot Fuss which was released like a year ago?

They do have new songs that are only available as singles:

The Ballad of Michael valentine
Under the Gun
Who let you go
Change Your Mind

The Murder Trilogy is probably what gets alot of people interested.

Leave The Bourbon on the Shelf - this one is the planning the murder
Midnight Show - Commiting the murder
Jenny was a friend of mine - Confessing to the murder in a police station

This is quoted by Brandon Flowers (Killers lead singer).
"There was water involved, although he didn't drown her."

I'm seeing them live next Tuesday here in San Diego! WOOHOO. :D

EDIT - found the first song.

My girlffriend thinks gifts are something you give when the moment is right, or when you think something should be given, not on dates... so no worry's about gifts ;)

nah! a lot actually, but last week I bought her very nice earrings (I had been saying I'd buy her earrings for months) so gift 1 has been given!

"Spirited Away" is a fantastic movie! That one got me interested in all of Miyazaki's work- he is a phenomenal animator - apparently he is revered in Japan; we are only now getting the bulk of his work available in the States.

Of the (only) four films of his I've seen, my next fave is "Kiki's Delivery Service".

naaah. best animation movie ever is the BFG :D

Ricod
05-03-2005, 02:47 PM
BFG ? What is that ?

Anyway, did anyone see Steamboy ? I was looking forward to it for 1,5 year. The designs were amazing and I loved the whole atmosphere. Too bad the rest of the movie is only so-so and the ending scene took longer than Spok's death scene in whatever Star Trek movie he died. Still, a must see [emphasizing the 'see' part]

But about Miyazaki, if you have a cellular phone in Japan, you can't walk around without a Tonari no Tottoro strap ! ;)

linckx
05-04-2005, 03:17 PM

@Linckx : Sorry, Tonari no Totoro : http://www.totoro.org/

It's a fan favourite of many a Japanese schoolgirl and even adult guys have a small Tonari no Totoro toy strapped to their mobile phones (probably to lure schoolgirls to them who can't ignore things they consider cute). At least, when I was in Kyoto last year, I'd say 90% of the people I met had one.

I never saw BFG then ...

Ruben
05-04-2005, 08:11 PM

Our teacher in, I think, class 4 (now group 6) read a little bit from it in front of the class ... I only remember "meisjes stamper" because I thought girls were stupid back then  Boy, how stupid was I ? To all : This is no invitation to answering that or leave smart remarks like "was ? linckx

I remembered 'bloedbottelaar' and 'slagersjongen'

the quote is one of the bad giants entering the cave where GVR (BFG) lives, when the kid is there...

But indeed, it could be 'ik ruik mens'... translated that's 'I smell humans'... the bad giants eat children in their sleep, the GVR (BFG) gives them good dreams.

thats it, when the giant enters the cave, he asks the BFG have you got human, BFG goes, no no you know i don't eat human, then he says I smell human.

Ricod
05-05-2005, 02:27 PM
Old African style ? Are you from South Africa originally then ? Wow, people here come from everywhere !

Het is nu hemelvaart. You know, the day Christ went to Heaven.

Tradition here has it that people go 'dauwtrappen' ... or riding a bike early in the morning, watching the morning dew. I tend to turn around once more around that time and think of all the people who're on their bikes at that time, thinking they're doing something that has something to do with Christianity. :p

Congrats on the 2k linckx ! I hope you prepared well, so we won't get no 2k problems over here. ;)

And about your US comparison linckx, NO WAY is George W. cool enough to be Jaffar ! (but in the end, equally foolish). Yuck ! He's here atm ... *waits for men with sunglasses and earpieces to come shut him down* I'm so glad I fled Maastricht !

Everybody who animates always seem to like the Genie though ... who would that be in the US ? The 'voters' then ? I'm thinking NSA or something, but I do watch a lot of movies, so ...

And before I forget : Happy mother's day all you mothers ! I hope you've all done something nice for yours and no "She's got me, what greater gift could she want ?" stuff ! 2 k owkeey! I would like to thank all my fans who stayed with me through thick and thin, my mother (it's her day today), my father and my brother to keep my feet on the ground, my friends for making me proud on the nice things they do.
