I've been elected Project Manager for this group software engineering project we have to do this year at University. I'm after an application (free) which will allow me to manage my team and the project via the web. Ideally it would have features like and online CVS repository and task delegation etc.
I've so far found:
http://www.iteamwork.com/
http://www.granpm.com/

But neither is perfect for my application. I figured I'd leverage the experience of members here. Any body have experience with a good product?

Well, it's not free but you might be able to find a trial version or something

MS Project is killer...might be a little overkiller for what you're doing. It's great at setting assets and milestones and scheduling.

For instance...lets say you decide programming cannot begin till design is signed approved (yeah, we wish!). You set the programming time line as dependant on the Design milestone. If that Design milestone is missed it pushes the programming timeline automatically.

Kind of heavy for small projects but a good thing to get familiar with. You'll definitely run into it later in the professional environment. It might have a web export too, dunno...

Thanks Vile, but I'd evaluated Project and found it's not within our budget or exactly what we're after. We mainly need an online repository system (but the other features would be good too).

Yeah it is expensive. The cool thing is I see it used for all sorts of different situations from film production to construction to software.

Let us know what you settle on. Would love to find a good one that's cheap.
