Tweening text won't work

Hello. Last night I tried in vain to get some text to tween from Alpha 0% to Alpha 100% but to no avail. I followed the process as taught, and could get it to work on a non-text symbol. I made sure I converted the text to a graphic symbol etc, and I could get it to motion tween around the screen, but it just doesn't want to fade in. Even if it is set to begin at Alpha 0% it always comes up at 100% straight away. If i have the symbol in the library, I can activate the fade in okay there, but as soon as I drag it onto the stage, it won't work. Would really be happy if someone could help.

You need to embed the font in the field.
