Decompiling is generally frowned upon and is more or less stealing!

yeah.. as i can see in this forum, you people over react when it comes to decompiling... what the ffff...
why the hell would i steal anyone's program.. what would i do with that codes.. duh?
if there would be someone who would steal others peoples program, its you people who knows alot about programming and makes money out of it..
of all people here, you're the ones who knows that the original program cant be obtained even if its decompiled.
geeezzz.. you people are like "hey kid, dont watch porno, its bad..."
but in fact, pornos are all over the net and in reality, you're the ones who watch them alot.... get my point?
get my point? :cool:Got it, you are indeed stealing this stuff so no help from me for sure ...

lol... stealing..
haha thats funny
am i gonna make my own game out of that program? lol
i'm not even a game developer so why would i steal that..
you accuse me that i'm gonna steal it but in reality, you're the ones who steal other people's codes.. you're the programmers here, not me.. don't even deny that you don't steal other people's program coz for once in your life, you did take a peek on other people's program.
if there's someone who has intentions of stealing other people's program, its you, not me... because as you can see i'm just a noob trying to edit a few lines of codes to make my life easier... i have no reason of stealing other peoples codes... lol
is it hard to say that "hey kid, you cant decompile it coz theres a security encryption or something.. bla bla bla... thats the reason why your decompiler crashes.."
duh?
anyway, i'm not expecting any answers from this forum because as i can see.. your minds are consumed by greed and selfishness.. you always think that other people would steal your program because you yourself do steal programs from your fellow programmers.. thats why "stealing" is always the first thing that comes out of your mind.
I never decompiled somebody's work just because I do respect the work they put into whatever they do. I create all my code, use open source classes once in a while, learn from books, tutorials, college classes, friends. That's the big difference between a guy like you and a guy like me. I want to know how to do it and stealing other people's code won't be helpful in that, you just want to get the job done and stealing people's code will help you in that. If you were ethical and fair you would just contact the guy who made this file and ask him for some advice which most programmer are often happy to do.

i wouldn't have said harsh things if they didn't accuse me of stealing in the first place... if they define stealing as merely peeking into other people's codes, then they are indeed thieves as well coz the programs written in books are not their own programs! and the programs from their friends are not from their ideas either! accusing someone like that would definitely make them angry.
i'm not really into flash programming.
the files i have posted is a game from facebook and the reason i want to edit it is to give my character a unique look from other players. i wanted to customize my character's appearance just to make it look cool. but as what i've said, i'm not expecting any help from this forum anymore coz i didn't know thats the way they think... such a narrow minded people
You buy a book.
A friend offers you some advice.
You pay for a class.
A tutorial is meant to be read.
An open source code has copyrights and terms of use.
Decompiling is taking from.

like what i've said, i dont know much about flash programming and i dont know much about flash developer's WORLD.
the only thing i know is .swf is the latest file format used today instead of .fla
just like .doc for old microsoft word and .docx for the latest version.
i didnt know .swf are used to hide its program or for private reasons.
if i did decompile a swf, copied the program, make my OWN game out of it, then sold it, thats stealing!
but if you think by just merely decompiling is stealing, then you really are a narrow minded one.
:p
This has to be one of the funniest threads I have ever seen about decompiling thanks to all of akujin's misguided and off the wall comments. You sure have tried to go out of your way with your comments and rebuttals. It is quite amusing.
I especially liked the part about learning code from a book is stealing too. It's like saying going to watch a movie in a theater and download illegally movies is the same ... ;)

yeah right. i may be wrong with the example i used to show my point but you are wrong on your definitions of stealing!
how dare you accuse me of stealing if i didnt even copied other people's program. did i take any credit out of that program? duh?
I said what you intent to do is stealing since you do not get any agreement from the author. That is why we don't want in these forums to help people decompiling files, since we don't know if the author gave his consent then we don't want to be part of it. I hope you can at least understand that.

Ok, do you work for Facebook, or are you part of the development team whom created that game? If not, then those files are not yours to decompile.
Also even if you could decompile them, since you dont know the basic difference between the .SWF and .FLA file formats as you previously mentioned, I doubt you will be able to make the modifications you wish to.

Plus even if you could modify it, how will you re-upload the modified files back to the facebook servers to play the game and let others see how you changed your character to look different? The whole basis of your reasoning makes no sense, sorry.
Maybe we should email facebook and let them know your gonna help them modify one of there apps "Facebook Ninja Saga" and be on the look out for big improvements once you decompile it and get back with them?

Got it, you are indeed stealing this stuff so no help from me for sure ...
.
alright I said it but let's say we were in a car related forum and somebody was asking "how to open a car when you don't have the keys?". Ethically we shouldn't be providing an answer because the guy might just be trying to steal one.

but its also unethical to just jump into conclusions that he is a thief

A decompiling SWF is not an act of theft, but decompiling somebody else's SWF that you don't have a permission to is... That is an official response from this forum, period...

maybe i could try replacing those jpg's.. i saw a guy posting his character with modifications so i tried doing it on my character/ monsters... just like this:

i dont need to reupload. i can use fiddler/http debbuger to see the changes even if its just on my screen.

i'm not actually trying to modify their game.. i just want my character to look different.. just like customizing your desktop..

Well if you can see another persons with modifications are you sure its just not a feature your unaware of then? Otherwise its kind of contradictory what your describing.
* CyanBlue confirmed what was already being stated and expressed to you, so the bottom line is this thread has little meaning. Why not instead ask Facebook or other Facebook users if there is a way to change your character attributes, especially if you saw someone else doing so.

its not contradictory.. its just screenshots that he posted.
anyway, i doubt facebook would do such effort just to satisfy my crave to customize my character looks.. i'll just figure it out how to do it on my own.
this thread just got too long because i got pissed by what aswc was posting..
