View Full Version : Low Hard Drive Space on Server

Not quite sure where I should post this. I'm trying to find a good forum for my questions. If anyone knows of another good tech forum I might be able to post this in, please let me know.

But for now, my problem is this...I have a server running NT 4 and SQL 8 (I think). NT is on the C drive. The SQL database is on the D drive and takes up 200MB. Right now, the C drive has about 45 MB of hard drive space left on it (it's a 2GB drive). The D drive has about 500MB left (a 15GB drive). I want to try and free up space on both drives or replace the drives if necessary but keep the same exact setup.

I'm not an IT person at all. But I've been elected to do this job. The server is running all transactions for our e-commerce site. So downtime would be bad. The data drive has a folder on it called sqlbak which holds a 10GB file named the dame thing as the database. I'm assuming this is a backup, but I'm not sure why it is 10GB?? As for the C drive, I've checked the pagefiles and everything looks good. There's not a ton of room to play with, at least according to the settings that Microsoft recommends.

Anyway, I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas or suggestions on how to resolve these things. I've been thinking of getting some software like Ghost or DriveCopy and just putting everything on a brand new hard drive and then swapping them out. But then I read the horror stories of drives being lost and all that. So I'm hesitant to do anything at this point. Thanks in advance!
