View Full Version : [CS5] Test Movie Bug/Corrupt?

I'm experiencing very strange behavior when I test a movie. The first test of any movie, after opening the Flash program (CS5 Pro) will work as expected. However, every test after thereafter will ignore the ActionScript completely and play on a continuos loop. After attempting to debug one of these instances, Flash gives me the error that the movie cannot be debugged because the .SWF contains no ActionScript.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

(Notes: I've tested several movies, with AS as basic as a single stop command and nothing else. I've tested the files on another machine. I've reinstalled Flash. Closing Flash and opening it again provides one more "fresh" test that works as expected. Finally this has not always been the case, the program was working fine for a few months (so I don't think the install CD is corrupt).

I've seen this before, but never really known what causes it. There are several threads about the issue. Someone http://www.actionscript.org/forums/showpost.php3?p=842368&postcount=13 in that post says they found out what the issue was.

I can't say for sure. You would just have to try it.

EDIT: Their link was broken. Here's another post about how they fixed it http://guptamukesh.wordpress.com/2010/09/03/cannot-debug-this-swf-because-it-does-not-contain-actionscript/

It seems that the problem has to do with the JVM running out of resources. In your case the swf is small, and so is the fla so it could be a more general issue of a misconfigured jvm rather than a need to allocate more resources to it.
