Hi guys,
I'm very new to FlashMX and having a problem importing images.
How can you import images so the image background is transparent and doesn't block any images underneath?
When one image overlaps another i'm getting a horrible block effect.
I hope im explaining the problem clearly (excuse the pun).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Flash.

can you not just set the alpha value to the amount that you want?
Or have you put the layers incorrectly?
If this doesn't mean anything to you, then upload a sample file or some code.

Hi,
Thanks for the response.
I have tried changing the alpha setting but then the whole image is faded out. Not too sure about the layers, I think there is only 1 layer.
Like i say im pretty new to the whole graphics thing.
Thanks.
Flash.

Hi,
I have found it useful to export the image as a Gif with a transparent background from imageReady. You shouldn't have any problems with that.

Thanks for your time guys.
Ok here goes, when you run this please remember I am very new to flash/graphics etc.
Cheers,
Flash
The solution is funnily enough the magic wand
place your bitmap
break it apart
select lasso tool
select the magic wand that appears under the tool palette
(make sure image isn't currently selected)
selected the bit u want to be transparent and delete it.
(i'm guessing what your problem was) The annoying block effect when you import a transparent gif is cause by dithering in 16 colour mode

my suggestion is place bitmap and trace the edge of the picture and redraw them with graphic tools in Flash.
good luck.

Bloody fantastic.
Thanks for the help guys
just when You export the image from photoshop use as follow:
1. File-Save for Web
2. in the output dialog panel take PNG 24 as your output file format
3. import to library from within FlashMX (PNG24 image)
4. now being in Flash drop your bitmap on to the stage
5. convert it to Graphic or MC as you like.
6. now when you will test it in the movie it will appear not so nice,
that's why go back to the main Flash env. and double click your original bitmap in the library panel ( bitmap image not converted
Flash symbol) you will have small panel called Bitmap Properties.
7. in this panel change the Compression to Lossless (PNG/GIF)
8. that's it
You will have beautiful quality image with all sort of transparency,
you can do it even nice blurred transition this way.
Just one thing to remember Losseless images are biger in file size,
so your movie became biger but it works very fine for small graphic elements, if you want to do the whole backgroun from bitmaps I sugest to use jpeg.
hope it helps.
Alek
it should default to that for pngs and gifs any way
you will still get the problem in 16 bit colour
btw this also affects the hit area of the graphic which can be well useful
